Just like the Kid before him, the Baby’s 2nd grade homework was to make a recipe. Baking is a fun way to spend time together and hopefully he’ll find these skills I’m teaching him now useful later in life.

Rice krispies treats were the ideal recipe to try and we changed it up by mixing the cocoa krispies with the regular rice krispies giving the treats a modern look with a unique taste. The Baby got a high marks for this project and now he makes these regularly. I love this new twist on an old favorite, you can’t beat good grades and sweet treats!

ingredients:
2 Tablespoons butter
1 package (40 regular sized) marshmallows
3 cups Rice Krispies cereal
3 cups Cocoa Krispies cereal

Prep a 9×13 dish by greasing it with a little bit of melted butter.

In a bowl stir together the cocoa krispies and the regular rice krispies, set aside.

In a large pot, melt the 2 Tablespoon of butter and the marshmallows. (The Baby did this all himself but I watched like a hot. Nothing like a gas stove and small child to set you on edge.)

Stir until you get a lovely gooey melted mess. Add the rice krispies and the cocoa krispies cereal, until it is completely coated.

Press the coated cereal into the greased pan. Press down so it is compact and even. Let cool.

Cut into squares and enjoy!
