Brown Sugar Meatballs

Brown Sugar Meatballs
So for the big Pirate Party, I wanted something quick, in addition to the millions of other dishes I had planned. This is a variation on a meatloaf that I make. And talk about quick. You can make your own meatballs, but this is way faster. Just 4 hours in a crock pot…

ingredients:
2 bags meatballs – plain, no sauce (or make your own)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tsp black pepper

Brown Sugar Meatballs

Put half the meatballs in the crock pot. Cover with HALF the brown sugar, then HALF the ketchup, then one teaspoon black pepper. Add the rest of the meatballs, and everything else, just as you did. Cover. Set your crockpot to high. This will only take about 3-4 hours.

The ingredients are simple, but the taste is fab. (Sorry this is the only picture I have)

Could this be done on the stove? I don’t have a crockpot. Any suggestions?

Sure it can be done on the stove. Just precook the meatballs – browned in a pan, then baked is best – then do the same layering bit, but in a large covered pan, on low for about 30- 45 mins.

My mother (and than me) has made a variation of this recipe for years. It is awesome. We add lemon juice and a few pieces of crystalized ginger to the sauce. We actually let the sauce simmer for a while than just dump it on the meatballs. I do not acutally measure the ketchup and brown sugar, but go by color and taste ( the sauce is on the browner side). I always make the meatballs from scratch, I think they are better that way. Now I am craving them.

These were so good! They remind me a lot of the ones I used to buy at Gelsons. Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for the recipe…the kids really enjoyed them…I had to tell my little pirates to eat the other food items…not just the meatballs.
    Thumbs up…I give it a 5 star….!!
