Rice Krispies Treats are so addicting, the mere mention of them takes you right back to childhood. While there’s no doubt that traditional ones are the best, fun variations made with different cereals, peanut butter, or even ice cream make them into extraordinary snacks.
Then again, sometimes all it takes is butter. By browning the butter just slightly, these gain a whole new level of depth and warmth that take these treats to the next level.
4 Tablespoons unsalted butter
40 regular sized marshmallows
pinch of kosher salt
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Prep a 9×13 pan with parchment.
In a large pot over medium-high heat add the butter and the marshmallows, stirring constantly.
When the marshmallows start to soften and the butter just starts to brown, turn the heat off and stir until the marshmallows are melted. Be careful to not go too far and burn the butter.
Fold in the salt and the Rice Krispies cereal.
Spoon into the prepped pan and use a silicone spatula to flatten evenly.
Let cool, then cut into squares.
