Hello Kitty sandwich maker how-to

I got this sandwich maker for xmas and was SO excited only to find out there were no images of Hello Kitty burned into the sandwich. What.

Nope, just a plain old sandwich press. BO- to the RING. Oh well. I had promised the kids sandwiches for dinner, so we tried it out anyway.

I was going for a ‘pizza pocket’ so I set up pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, colby cheese, salami, turkey and olives. (These were the ingredients requested, btw).

My SIL went heavy on the olives, the Kid went heavy on the cheese, and the Baby? Just meat. Nothin’ else. He couldn’t be bothered, I guess.

As everyone assembled their sandwiches, I buttered both sides of the bread and stuck it in. Oddly enough, the Baby’s (cheese-less) turned out the BEST. Just perfect little sandwich shapes! Meanwhile the overloaded cheese did a number on the machine and it was a cheese-apocalypse. Melted cheese everywhere that took me over and hour to try and scrape off. Not. Good.

I love this thing, but really the clean up will be the death of me. Since this one only cost $10 at Target, I’m thinking I should go big pimpin’ and buy a ‘professional’ one, I think (hope) the clean up wouldn’t be such a nightmare.

The kids (and the SIL) had so much fun making their own sandwiches they asked to do it again the following night! I’d still like a Hello Kitty face burned into mine, just sayin’.

Overfill = overkill, as you learned.

You can make fake turnovers in them, too. Use the canned biscuit dough or buttered white bread and fill with canned pie filling or Nutella. Yum, warm Nutella and bananas!

Boo to no Hello Kitty burned onto the sandwich.

I think thats false advertisement!!!!! No Hello Kitty shapes? Thats plain crazy!

A note on the clean up – when I have a mess on my waffle maker, sandwich maker etc., I wet a few layers of paper towels really well and then put them on the hot waffle/sandwich maker and close it for a few seconds. It kinda steams the gunk right off. Just make sure to wet the paper towels well or you might have a fire-ey mess instead of a cheesy one!

I would have been so dissapointed too ! I can recommend the george forman grill, makes great grilled cheese sandwiches and you can use it for so much more and its really easy to clean with a paper towel or damp cloth.

The one I have makes them in the shape of her face, but I got it a few years back.

I spray mine with Pam for Baking and the cleanup is a breeze. I love the trays and compartments for the kids’ meals. Do they really eat everything you put in there? I’m always looking for ways to get my son to eat.

That’s awful! I just bought one at Target and it does burn her face into the bread…it looks just like the one you have….I don’t get it!

I have the same one!! 😀
When I make sandwiches, I actually put it in twice. Sounds crazy but it turns out crazy good!
Not sure if this will work on all mechines? I have also only done with with grilled cheese sammies and it turns out nice and brown. I use two slices of cheddar, also any cheese that escaped the first go seals the sandwich magically and it leaves cleaner. I’m outta cheese and am going to try pb and jelly. Wish I had pizza ingredients!!! I’ll have to get some to try it, thanks for the great idea 🙂
