Actually, Minnesota’s nickname is ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes,’ not Michigan. Maybe they were referring to the Great Lakes when they came up with the name?

Quick quiz, how did the Lakers get their name? Reply: From the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” the nickname of Michigan. That is right! The Lakers started in Detroit, Michigan, in the 1940′s with a lay-over in Minneapolis, before finally moving to LA in the the 60′s.
