Ok, these are bar cookies in the sense that you can cut them into bars but I also like to go a step further and cookie cut hearts out of them. Feel the love…of chocolate.

ingredients:
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter (1-1/2 stick)
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup Nutella
1-1/2 cups chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and prep a 9×13 baking pan with parchment.

In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter, the sugar and the brown sugar. Add the eggs and the vanilla until combined.

Gradually add the flour until the mixture is combined.

Then mix in the chocolate chips. Stir in the Nutella slightly, just until you get a nice swirl.

Scoop the batter into the prepped baking pan and spread it out evenly.

Bake for 25 minutes until cooked and set.

Let cool in the pan, then using the parchment, move to a wire rack. If you just want bar cookies – let them cool completely, then cut into squares.

However for hearts – let them cool for just 15 minutes. The cookies will still be warm – and using a cookie cutter cut out small cookie hearts and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

If you’re wondering what to do with the leftovers, just grind them up and use the crumbs as ice cream toppings, crusts, sprinkles, etc. They won’t go to waste!
