Geeky? Obscure? Yep, that’s my baking forte.

While I am more versed in Star Wars treats I’m not against making Star Trek snacks. After all, the lines are becoming blurred lately.

One of the most famous geek memes of all time is the Captain Picard facepalm from Star Trek TNG.

So of course, the amazing Warpzone had to go and make a cookie cutter out of it and how could I not get it?? Don’t get offended if you get a facepalm when you make these cookies, I’m sure it’s a gesture of appreciation.

ingredients:
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg

red food gel dye
black food gel dye

In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In the bowl of an electric mixer beat the butter and sugar until combined. Add the vanilla and the egg.

Slowly add in the flour mixture until it is incorporated. The dough will form quickly, and when it starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s done!

Split the dough into two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.

When you’re ready to make cookies preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep cookie sheets with silpats.

For this cutter roll out the dough to 3/8″ thick. You want to make it thick enough to get all of the impressions to show through.

Also this particular cutter needs a little help, so dip it in flour before you press it into the dough. It will keep it from sticking.

Move the cookies to the prepped cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.

Now instead of using different colored dough or piping these cookies, I decided to try something different and hand paint them. I know, don’t give me the Picard facepalm – it’s easier than it sounds. Since there’s no intricate details on this cookie, just using food gel dye as ‘paint’ is a quick and easy way to get colorful cookies.

In a small glass bowl put a few drops of red food gel dye mixed with just a touch of water. Using a clean, food safe paintbrush color in the bottom portion of Picard’s shirt.

In another small glass bowl put a few drops of black food gel dye mixed with a bit of water and paint the top half of the uniform black.

Let the cookies dry for a few minutes and they’re ready to ENGAGE, I mean eat!
