Cleaning out my cookbooks, I found a ‘Hawaiian Air Flight Attendants Cookbook.‘ Who even knew I had this book?? Check this out:
HAWT. Er…or sexist.
Anyway, I found a recipe for Pineapple Spareribs, I changed it to update it a bit AND I put it in the crock pot to make life easier. (However it should be noted I also did it in the oven and it was great too. Man, I make up a lot of recipes ribs.) The book is stained and tattered but there is some neat stuff in there, more to come later…
ingredients:
2lbs pork spare ribs
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup pineapple juice
3/4 cup water
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
2 slices of ginger
3/4 cup pineapple chunks
In a small bowl combine the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, pineapple juice, water, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic.
Cut the ribs into twos, place in the crock pot. Pour the sauce over the ribs. Toss in the ginger slices.
Cover and turn crock pot on to low for 8 hours. When you are ready to serve, add the pineapple chunks.
If you want to do this in the oven, cut the ribs in twos, put them in a baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for two hours!
The kids…LOVED this. Oh my. After all those hours in the crock pot, the meat was flavorful and falling off the bone. I’ve already made this three times. Again, I test out A LOT of rib recipes…

I’m going to have to try this one. YUM! Then again, they are all yum.
More please.
Oh My! That is the best cookbook in the whole world. It might even be better than my Cooking With Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters book or Cooking with David Letterman’s Mom.
I don’t make ribs very often, but we went out for dinner the other night and my daughter asked the waitress for an order of ribs. She loved them. I’ll try these when I get my crockpot out of storage.
Hi Jenn, do you prefer the crockpot version or the baked? Is it possible to post the baking instructional too (temp & time)? Wanting to make this asap, but no crock pot handy right now -would love to bake this up. It sounds delicious! I have to take kids’ word for it, they are definitly honest when it comes to good food! LoL =)
@Chris
Hm, preference? Not really. Both work fine, it’s just about how much time you have. I’ve added to the recipe if you want to put them in the oven.
Finally tried this recipe & it’s so yummaay! Thank you Jenn.
Pork or beef? I would love to know what that is beside the carrots!
@Lisa
I like pork ribs the best.
Next to the carrots is a creamy fruit salad made with creme fraiche – recipe, here.
I never had/found reasons to purchase a crockpot…until right now. Thank you for playing and posting the recipe: -) I wonder if you are able to make delicious pho employing a pressure cooking pot. Tamala Noon
Trying these out tonight! Can’t wait
