POG Chicken

If you grew up in Hawaii or even if you’ve just visited, then you know that “Passion-Orange-Guava”—POG for short—is a delicious blend of tropical flavors that instantly transports you to an island state of mind.

Like most fruit flavors, POG is a great ingredient in sweet recipes. I’ve made POG cake and cupcakes, but something told me that it would make a perfect marinade for chicken.

Sweet and savory POG chicken is and easy meal that uses just a few ingredients to get subtle tropical flavors. Crispy chicken skin, that’s where the flavor’s at. The fragrant aroma that comes out of your kitchen when this is cooking will definitely take you back to the islands. Aloha…

POG Chicken

Ingredients:

6-8 chicken thighs
1 cup POG
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt
pepper

Instructions:

In a small bowl, stir together the POG, soy sauce, brown sugar, and garlic.

Place the chicken into a sealable bag and pour the marinade on top. Refrigerate for 4-6 hours.

When you are ready to cook, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prep a sheet pan with foil and place a wire rack on top. Spray with non-stick spray.

Discard the marinade and place the chicken on the wire rack. Season with salt and pepper, then cook for 50 minutes until juices run clear.

Serve with rice.

When I was a kid, my mom would make “POGO” juice by mixing together Passion/Orange and Guava/Orange juice concentrate. They’re pretty common in the grocery store freezer sections, so maybe it’d work in a pinch.

We love POG. I have yet to see it in a local store. You’re very lucky indeed…as is your family to eat this wonder-chicken. I guess I could get all three flavors and mix them together. We already buy Guava juice. So what’s 2 more.

  3. what a great recipe! i love the flavors in POG. I’ll have to search for it next time I’m in the grocery store (maybe Marukai might have it since they have a lot of Hawaiian items).

OMG….I love POG!!!!!! Fell in love with it visiting in Hawaii YEARS ago & had to have it on the mainland—-my Dad smuggled a carton (foil-wrapped in a “kinda” cooler) to me one year—-luckily I can now get it all the time at local grocery stores in the Seattle area! Just talked with my Mom & we are having POG Chicken when I visit her this weekend! Thanks Jenn!!!!
