Quarantine Non-Essential Essentials

50+ days into lockdown. As someone who values/valued alone time, I’m kind of losing it. Even though I love being at home not being able to go outside is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Thankfully I’ve surrounded myself with things to make this time a little bit easier. Some of theses items I had from before all of this, and others I bought as a result of being in quarantine. They’re definitely not essentials, then again it depends on how you look at it. Will a fun soap dispenser save your sanity? At this point I say, yes.

So here’s my list of non-essential essentials. Even when this is all over, these items will be useful for many years to come. Keep in mind that they may take longer to ship but in the end it’ll be worth it to make your quarantine a little bit better.

Rebel Scum Glass Soap Dispenser

Soap *is* an essential, and while a cute dispenser isn’t but it sure helps lift your spirits in quarantine. I searched etsy for something fun and this Star Wars glass jar made me cackle when I saw it. As a loyal supporter of the Empire, I think all Death Star bathrooms should have one of these at the ready.

Indoor Smokeless Grill
When I first bought this grill I had no idea just how much I’d be using it. Almost every other day I’m grilling burgers for dinner or bacon for breakfast. It’s great for kalbi, roasted vegetables, you name it–it’s better grilled. The best thing about this is the built in smokeless fan. It works perfectly, making indoor grilling a dream come true.

Tortilla Press
We eat a lot of tortillas and it’s just not possible to go out and grab a pack when you’re stuck in quarantine. Making your own is so easy you’ll never want store bought again. This press weighs a ton but does a great job flattening out your masa. The kids ask for them as a snack, fresh and hot with butter and salt, so sometimes the poor tortillas don’t even make it to dinner time. So much for taco night.

Taiyaki Maker
If you miss Somi Somi or any type of filled dessert pancake, this machine is for you. There are cheaper ones out there but this one is electric and works like a waffle maker, making life so much easier. Use my Strawberry Ice Cream and Nutella-Filled Matcha Taiyaki recipe and you’ll feel some semblance of life pre-quaratine.
