Sanrio Cafe
I write a lot about Hello Kitty food experiences here: the VIP party for the 35th anniversary, the Hello Kitty Kawaii Tea, etc. Recently I went to Hawaii and instead of spending time with my family and friends, I drove straight to the Sanrio Cafe. Ok, not exactly – but I was pretty excited. I love Sanrio and try to regularly make Hello Kitty cupcakes, chocolates, Hello Kitty oreos all on my own – but here, the Cafe was doing all that an more.
Located in the Pearl Ridge shopping mall, there isn’t much around here. At first glance you’d think it was just a regular ol’ Sanrio store, but right on the corner is a tiny storefront.
When I say tiny, I mean this place was TINY. No tables or chairs, just a walk up register. There were sandwiches and coffees, but of course the desserts were the first thing I looked at. So many cute things!

These desserts were just the right size, TINY. Just the way I like them.
Could you die? Little chocolate Keroppis – just like the Hello Kitty ones I attempted! These were so cute, I need those molds!!

OF COURSE the mochi caught my eye – you know I love mochi – I wanted to take some back to L.A. but seeing as how it had a very short shelf life, I knew it wouldn’t make it home. ~sigh~ Next time.
Instead I went for a little dobash cake. So tiny and cute. The cafe had a great array of desserts, I wish I could have tried them all. And here’s a tip for people who follow my blog – the Cafe has lots of neat hard to find Hello Kitty cookie cutters/kitchen items! So all those cupcakes I’ve made…yeah, there’s more to come for sure!
I went back a few times during my trip (how could I not?!) and the desserts seemed to change every day which was pretty neat. This is a cuteconcept that I think would do great in other cities across the country. Hopefully they’ll open one on the mainland!
wow! what an amazing little cafe. that would be so fun to go there. looks like the prices weren’t too bad either! this takes me way back. my sister and I used to trade Hello Kitty stickers when we were kids. (like 1980 thru 1983) We both still have our stickers. I still have my mini sticker books. And I mean mini. They were filled with cute stickers and they were only about 2 x 2 inch square books. I think they used to cost $1.99. They were absolutely adorable and highly treasured amongst us and our friends. I don’t know if you remember those or not. Do you remember Sanrio’s Patti and Jimmy, or Seven Silly Dwarves? Gosh, the little pink bunny, I can’t remember what she was called, but that was my favorite. Now you’ve got me wanting to go down in the basement at midnight to look for my old sticker collection!!
ok, i found my sticker collection with all my Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters. I forgot about Little Twin Stars named Kiki and Lala..and the pink bunny is My Melody. I also found Tiny Poem stickers which was also Sanrio. So the copywright on all this stuff is between 1976 and 1979. And…the little sticker books…the were called “mini seal books” and the only cost .35 cents! can you believe that! I also found my Little Twin Stars autograph book and the Hello Kitty hand embroidered tiny pillow that my older sister made for me. Thanks for bringing back all these memories! and sorry if i rambled on a bit!

I WENT THERE, last year, but it was disappointing when I went, definitely not quite the selection you had.
I was hoping for little chairs and tables but unfortunately, it wasn’t there.
But there is a Hello Kitty cafe in Taiwan that i DEFINITELY want to go to. It has the whole sheebang! With chairs, tables, and sweets!

like you we went a couple times while we were there, and everytime we went there was something new! I was looking for molds and cutters and they didn’t have any. Phooey! Let me know if you spy any anywhere. I need to dig out my ice cube molds see who’s in that one. I also have the rice shaper. I’ve *been* looking for the hard boiled egg mold but looks like I have to get that on ebay or something. We liked our first purchase, it was like a blueberry cream sandwiched in btwn a dense poundcake. we tried the pineapple sponge cake and the yogurt cheesecake and they tasted exactly the same. bummers.
Oh my, as if sun, surf and whales weren’t enough. I have to go to Hawaii, now.
I hope when I get there they have more Chococat, though. He’s my favorite.
Love it!!! Man, I get more and more jealous of you West Coasters! If I ever get out there, first I want to check out your designs, then off to Hawaii for some Hello Kitty goodness 🙂

Oh my Hello Kitty goodness! I’ve been looking for a reason to go back to Hawaii and I’ve just found it. You find all the coolest things!
I use Alumilite mold putty to make simple press molds from toys. Then I cast chocolate or gummy candy into the molds. I like the gummy clear colors. All you’d need are a few Hello Kitty plastic toys, push the putty on, wait 3 minutes, then you can cast candy. It is still so incredibly bizarre to me that something this cute is in Pearlridge… Oh well. I won’t complain. It’s closer than Ala Moana!
