Super Kawaii Happy Fun Time Donuts…is what this recipe should have been called. Something about pink is just super adorable.
I love donuts as you know, and for these I used Strawberry Organic Milk
ingredients:
2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 cup strawberry milk
pink gel food coloring
glaze ingredients:
1/4 cup Strawberry Milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
pink gel food coloring
I use an electric Mini Donut Maker
In a bowl whisk together the cake, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the eggs and the milk and stir together until JUST combined. Don’t overwork it!
Ok, here’s where the cheat comes in. Since the milk is just plain milk colored (boring) I add a teeeeeeny amount of pink gel food coloring. Just to give it a nice hint of color – very strawberry. Mix it until just combined.
Now that your batter is ready, spoon it into your prepared maker and cook per manufacturer’s directions.
Let the donuts cool on a wire rack. Aren’t they lovely and poofy?
While they are cooling, make the glaze. In a small bowl combine the strawberry milk, vanilla and the powdered sugar. Whisk until combined and runny, and again – just add a touch of food coloring if you like. Psst…get a kid to do it so you can take a breather.
These donuts are mini – so you can be sure that sprinkles would be a total overload, am I right? Yeah well I couldn’t help myself, I was already on a pink high, so I had to keep it going.
I set up a prep station of cooled donuts, glaze, and sprinkles…
…then came the fun part. Dipping into the glaze, then the sprinkles – soon we were surrounded by beautiful little sprinkled donuts.
Sweet and cute – a total pink overload!

cute overload for sure!! these are adorable, Jenn! and can i just say that i LOVE strawberry flavored milk! today, one of my students was at lunch and while i was supervising i saw that he had the same strawberry organic milk you have and i swear i almost wanted to steal it from him and drink it myself! i didn’t, of course
but since socal has been so hot lately, i almost couldn’t help myself!

No way, I would never take lunch from one of the kids, and any teacher who would is despicable. In fact, I called out one of my aide’s on taking food from one of the kids and I embarrassed her, but she deserved to be called out! How could anyone take food away from kids like that? I hope no one is taking your son’s food from him anymore – ESPECIALLY the teacher!
I am so excited, I’m getting my donut maker this week! Quick question, is your frosting a wet or dry frosting? And does it become hard?

I have the same donut maker as yours but for some reason my donuts never come out as smooth and evenly cooked as yours do. What’s your secret?

Hm. I don’t know. I butter the donut maker right before I put in the batter every time. Maybe that could be it?

You know I thought about this a bit more, and I’m thinking it IS the timing of the maker. The problem is, I do it by eye, I never really timed myself!
That’s why in all my recipes I say, ‘according to your oven’ etc. Everyone’s appliances are different.
Keep in mind though, there will be ‘shrinkage’ inevitably once they come out of the maker.

Hi LOVE all your recipes and I tried this one today however it came out chewy. Is it supposed to be that way? Or is it suppose to be more cakey?

The cake flour makes them lighter, which might be mistaken for chewy depending on your maker. If you are using a donut pan in the oven it will give it a different consistency.
I made these few days ago too. It is kind of chewy, like waterproof(couldn’t absorb my saliva in the mouth). Or did I do something wrong in the process?
