Teriyaki Meatballs

Please don’t use bottled teriyaki sauce. Homemade is so much better and takes less time than you’d think! Using pork makes these meatballs moist and the panko gives it substance. This is a great weeknight meal that doesn’t take long to prepare.

Teriyaki Meatballs

Ingredients:

ingredients:
1 lb ground pork
1/2 cup panko (Japanese bread crumbs)
1 clove garlic, minced
pepper

sauce ingredients:
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup mirin (Sweet Cooking Rice Wine)
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon corn starch
2 Tablespoons water

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

In a bowl combine the ground pork, panko, garlic. Season with ground pepper.

Form into small walnut-sized meatballs and place in an oven safe dish. Set aside.

In a saucepan combine the soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Bring to a simmer. In a small bowl combine the cornstarch and water to make a paste. Add it to the simmering sauce and bring to a boil. Once it thickens, quickly turn off the heat.

Pour the sauce over the meatballs and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes and serve!

Do you mince or crush the garlic clove?

I made a whole slew of Musubi’s for dinner last night. No way was I going with a bottled sauce!

I’d lose my street cred (!).

  3. These Teriyaki meatballs look absolutely scrummy. And you are absolutely right, homemade teriyaki sauce is so much better than bottled ones. By the way, love the glass.

WE made these meatballs last night for the first time. They are now my two sons (picky eaters) favorite dishes…next to spaghetti and lasagna! I have been using the teriyaki sauce with Ikea meatballs for the last two years but since moving back to Hawaii (and no Ikea…) I decided to finally try the meatballs. SO YUMMY and moist! I love the garlic in it! Boys are having them for dinner tonight! Thanks Just jenn!
