Please don’t use bottled teriyaki sauce. Homemade is so much better and takes less time than you’d think! Using pork makes these meatballs moist and the panko gives it substance. This is a great weeknight meal that doesn’t take long to prepare.
ingredients:
1 lb ground pork
1/2 cup panko (Japanese bread crumbs)
1 clove garlic, minced
pepper
sauce ingredients:
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup mirin (Sweet Cooking Rice Wine)
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon corn starch
2 Tablespoons water
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
In a bowl combine the groung pork, panko, garlic. Season with ground pepper.
Form into small walnut-sized meatballs and place in an oven safe dish. Set aside.
In a saucepan combine the soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Bring to a simmer. In a small bowl combine the cornstarch and water to make a paste. Add it to the simmering sauce and bring to a boil. Once it thickens, quickly turn off the heat.
Pour the sauce over the meatballs and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes and serve!

Do you mince or crush the garlic clove?
I made a whole slew of Musubi’s for dinner last night. No way was I going with a bottled sauce!
I’d lose my street cred (!).
These Teriyaki meatballs look absolutely scrummy. And you are absolutely right, homemade teriyaki sauce is so much better than bottled ones. By the way, love the glass.
