This is a simple recipe that can be used for cakes and cupcakes. Buttercream is easy to alter by adding flavorings or tinting colors, it’s a wonderful versatile frosting you’ll go back to over and over again.
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Tablespoons milk, as needed
In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter while adding the sugar SLOWLY, a little at a time. Add the vanilla, then the milk as needed.
Once you get the consistency you want, turn the mixer up to medium high and WHIP it for about 10-15 seconds.
