Wizard of Oz cupcakes

When I was a kid I remember watching the Wizard of Oz over and over. I especially liked the beginning when the colors changed from black and white to color. It was such a huge part of the storytelling.

It’s hard to believe but The Wizard of Oz is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary and Warner Bros has re-released it on Blu-Ray 3D. The digital re-mastering has made the images even sharper and full of detail. Now there’s no escaping those flying monkeys for sure! The special features include The Making of the Woderful Wizard of Oz and a sing-along feature, which is fun because there are so many iconic songs in the movie.

One of the most memorable scenes was when the house fell on the Wicked Witch of the East and all you saw were her striped socks and ruby slippers. She was quite the fashionista.

To celebrate this beloved movie I made Wicked Witch of the East cupcakes. Instead of a house crushing the witch, I’ve smashed her with a Lemon Yellow Brick Road cupcake! That’s the way I want to go.

The 5 disc Wizard of Oz: 75th Anniversary Limited Collector’s Edition and The Wizard of Oz: 75th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / UltraViolet are available in stores and online now.

Ingredients:

Lemon Cupcakes
Lemon Mascarpone frosting
marshmallows
black frosting
Sour Cherry Coke Bottle gummies

Instructions:

Roll out the marshmallow or you can buy them pre-flattened. Seriously. They sell flat marshmallows for easier smores making.

Cut two 1/8″ wide slices lengthwise. These will be the legs.

Place the “legs” on the plate you’re going to serve on. Using a #3 tip, pipe black frosting stripes for the stockings.

For the sparkly ruby red slippers, a Sour Cherry Coke Bottle Gummy makes a surprisingly good shoe. Cut off the brown part of the Coke bottle, then cut a wedge into the bottom, forming a shoe heel.

Place the gummy shoes at the ends of the legs.

Now the fun part. Take your frosted cupcake and smash in down on at the end of the legs, opposite the shoes. Now it looks like the Witch met her timely end in the sweetest of ways – via smashed lemon cupcake!
