11th Doctor – Doctor Who cookies

When the 10th doctor regenerated into the 11th he lamented the fact that once again, he was not a ginger. I’ve rectified that by making a Matt Smith 11th Doctor cookie with brown sugar ginger cookie hair. You’re welcome, Doctor.

Once again the gorgeously detailed cookie cutter came from my new fave: Warpzone on etsy. From ponies to Picard, the images are always dead on and are easy to use.

I used three different doughs for the look of this cookie and while you may not need all of it, don’t worry the dough freezes well when wrapped in plastic wrap. Achieving this look is a lot easier than it seems. Simple putting the dough pieces together like a puzzle gives the cookie different shades that add a lot of detail as well as flavor.

Of course, the real selling point here is the bow tie made from sprinkles. After all, edible bow ties are cool. These little chibi Matt Smiths are too cute to eat! Hang on…look out behind you Doctor!!

Ingredients:

vanilla cookie ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 Tablespoon vanilla

brown sugar ginger cookie ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

chocolate cookie ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

additional decoration:
red heart quins
small round red heart sprinkles

Instructions:

For all the doughs, follow these same directions: whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and the sugar. Add the egg and vanilla.

Slowly add the dry ingredients and mix well, when the dough pulls away from the side of the mixing bowl, it’s done!

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate. For this particular cookie you will only need HALF of each dough. Freeze the other halves for later.

The Doctor cookie cutter is very detailed and may need a little help so make sure you always dip it in flour before each use.

First roll out the vanilla dough to about 3/8 of an inch. You want a fuller dough so that you can capture all of the detail. Using the cookie cutter press down to get a clean impression.

Cut around the hairline and down around the shirt. You are going to discard the rest of the suit and hair. You should be left with a vanilla dough impression of his face and shirt, only. Place on a silpat lined baking sheet.

Roll up the discarded dough and keep making Matt Smith faces. Out of cookie dough, I mean. Not in the mirror.

Moving on to his hair, roll out the brown sugar ginger dough to 3/8″ and cut out the Doctor. Cut along the hairline once again to get just the hair.

On the silpat carefully line that up with the vanilla face and push it together. When it bakes it will turn into one piece, I promise.

For the suit roll out the chocolate dough to 3/8″, make the impression then cut around the suit area. This one’s fairly easy. Take the suit by itself and lay it right under the shirt and face area.

Put all the pieces together and now you have a fully formed Doctor!

To complete the regeneration process preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool slightly then move to a wire rack to completely cool.

What’s an 11th Doctor without a bow tie? All you need is two small heart quins and one extremely tiny heart dot. I used the red holly berries that came with my holiday sprinkles. Then just a little frosting to keep them in place.

I love how you mixed the different doughs together!

Do you remember how many servings/cookies the recipe makes if we only use a single batter?

  6. justJENN says:

@Nadia you mean if you use just one kind of dough for a cookie? You should get about 48.
