Battle of Yavin cupcakes
Think the biggest geek event of the year is Comic Con? Nope. Every year my friend Mel throws the biggest and best party and it even has it’s own hashtag: #MelsBBQ People go so far as to fly in for this event and it even trended on twitter.
Since so many of the geek world show up to this event it’s only fitting that I bring geekiest of treats. The Battle of Yavin in Chocolate is the way to go.
Kotobukiya makes the most perfectly detailed geek molds. This is my homage to Red Five, an edible mini X-Wing and it’s Astromech droid. There is no tastier Galactic Civil War than one made out of chocolate.
Battle of Yavin cupcakes
Ingredients:
12 ounces chocolate
X-wing silicone tray
R2-D2 silicone tray
chocolate cupcakes
chocolate frosting
Instructions:
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
These molds are pretty intricate so spoon the chocolate into the molds can be difficult. I add a little at a time and get into all the crevices by using a toothpick.
Tap the mold several times until air bubbles come to the surface.
Place the molds in the freezer until set, approximately 10 minutes.
This part can be tricky. These two molds happen to make VERY delicate pieces, the wings of X-wing and Artoo’s feet in particular. To avoid breakage (which happens to me a lot), you have to be patient! Ease the chocolates out one at a time, loosening all around the edges.
Once the chocolates are turned out, keep them in an airtight container in the freezer until ready to use.
Place onto frosted cupcakes and serve!
You will definitely deserve a Medal of Yavin for making these cupcakes!
I have so much trouble with these molds! I always snap a foot on Artoo and a wing off the X-wing. I was hoping there was another trick to it that I was missing other than just being more patient!
