Cara Cara Orange Sherbet
Local Farmer’s Markets are my happy place. Here in LA we are lucky to have a ton of them and I go to a bunch of different ones throughout the city. Right now oranges are plentiful (well, in SoCal they are always plentiful) and right now they are gorgeous. One of my favorite oranges is the Cara Cara.
The Cara Cara is like a red navel orange. Not as red as blood oranges but a nice healthy deep orange tint. The flavor is strong and sweet, the texture almost reminds me of a small grapefruit but without the sourness.
When I found these large Cara Caras and I had to buy them because I knew exactly what I was going to use them for…sherbet! Sweet, frozen goodness with rich orange flavor. The kids declared it the best frozen treat they’ve ever had. It seems like a bunch of exaggeration but I’ll take the praise anyway.
