Where To Celebrate Star Wars Day In Los Angeles
May the 4th is a day long remembered—a day to celebrate Star Wars fandom! I love to see the creative ways people get into the spirit for this fan holiday. Whether you dress up, watch the movies, or go out and make your own adventure—the love of Star Wars will make the day exciting no matter what.
Luckily here in Los Angeles we have a lot of options for celebrating, the whole city seems to get into the spirit. Here’s a rundown of some of my favorite Star Wars-inspired things to do in Southern California on Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you!
STAR WARS TREATS
B Sweet
2005 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA
Back in 2015 BSweet had a life size TIE fighter on their roof for their very first May the 4th, so you know this place means business. This year they’ll have a most impressive array of Star Wars treats: Leia Cinnabuns, Kylo Ren blackout cake, Blue Milk cheesecake, and my personal favorite: lightsaber cookies! (I always get the red one).
Horchateria Rio Luna
15729 Downey Avenue, Paramount, CA 90723
Head to Horchateria Rio Luna decked out in your Star Wars attire and you can take 10% off of your purchase! That’s a deal that would even make the emperor smile. Fans who stick around in the evening will be greeted by Darth Vader from 5:00pm – 6:30pm. Time for that Dark Lord + horchata selfie!
Cafe 86
4110 Edison Ave #109, Chino, CA
This cafe is known for their ube treats but today everything is coming up blue with their Aunt Beru Milkshakes! This frosty cookie shake is made with blue milk and has a good helping of boba at the bottom. Use the force and take advantage of their $2 teas all day.
STAR WARS FUN
LA County Libraries
various locations
Aren’t libraries the best? Not only can you check out books to take your imagination to galaxies far, far away but they also hold awesome free events almost every day of the year. For May the 4th they’ll be holding a Rogue One screening, Star Wars-themed scavenger hunts and more. (Check out the County of Los Angeles Public Library events calendar to see if your local library is participating.)
Skyspace Los Angeles
633 West Fifth St., Suite 840 Los Angeles, CA
Only in LA can you feel like you’re in space by sliding down the exterior of the 1018-foot-high U.S. Bank Tower, the tallest building in Los Angeles. On May the 4th they’ll have characters from both the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion to help ease your fears as you peek over the edge. VIP Admission $50.00 (Includes Skyslide Combo, One Hot Shots Photo, Limited Edition May the 4th Skyspace T-Shirt, Priority Entrance), General Admission $25.00 and Skyslide Combo $33.00.
Battleship Iowa: San Pedro
250 S Harbor Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
10am – 4pm
Head to the South Bay to check out the Battleship USS Iowa. Dress as your favorite Star Wars character and receive discounted admission! (Bear in mind there are specific rules for this event, check them out on their website)
Adults $11 (regularly $19.95)
Youth $8 (regularly $11.95)
LA Ballroom Dance Studio
14261 Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA
7:45 PM – 9:15 PM
If Lapti Nek is your jam, turn up the tunes and head to the LA Ballroom Dance Studio and dance the night away in your best Star Wars costume.
STAR WARS DISNEY
Disneyland
There’s a ton of things to do at Disneyland when it comes to Star Wars, not just on May the 4th but every day!
1. Head to the top floor of the Mickey and Friends parking structure and you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the progress on the new Star Wars Land.
2. Star Trader is regularly filled with Star Wars merch and they just updated it with a bunch of new 40th anniversary items as well as a lot of women’s styles from Her Universe.
3. Protocol droids were recently added to the custom Droid Factory, take advantage and put some Mickey ears on your fave droids.
4. New Star Wars themed candies were introduced last week, pick up some Cinna-Ren Candies and Chewbacca Chewies
5. Make sure you try the new SECRET Star Wars Galactic Burger
Disney Store
Get to the Disney Store early enough and your kid can participate in the Unlock Imagination Ceremony. Once inside you’ll be inundated with the best Star Wars merch in the galaxy. There will be new items just for May the 4th and a special BB-8 pin with purchase while supplies last. Check with your local Disney Store for events and availability.
