Cheddar Scones
I do love a good scone. When you’re in the mood for pastry but don’t want something too sweet, a scone is your new best friend. Crumbly in texture it’s just what you need with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
While most of the scones I make are sweet, now and again I crave something with the same texture but not so sugary. These cheddar scones are everything you can imagine when it comes to a satisfying, savory treat.
ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
dash of cayenne
pinch of salt
fresh ground pepper
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 cup cheddar cheese
kosher salt
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prep a baking sheet with a silpat.
In a bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cayenne, salt and pepper.
Add the butter, egg and milk until just combined. Fold in the cheese.
Spread the dough evenly onto the prepped silpat. Then sprinkle with kosher salt.
Bake for 14-18 minutes depending on your oven and let cool on a wire rack. Cut into pieces and serve.
