Cheesy Witch’s Fingers
Trick, or treat? Why not both! Halloween can be spooky and delicious at the same time, especially when cheesy breadsticks are involved.
These savory snacks look like crinkly old witch’s fingers and are tricked out with almonds to create a way too realistic fingernail. Serve with a side of blood–aka marinara sauce–and you have a creepy, irresitable Halloween snack.
Cheesy Witch’s Fingers
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
pinch of kosher salt
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, diced
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
sliced almonds
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Prep baking sheets with parchment or silpats.
Step 2: In a bowl of an electric mixer on low, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3: Add the diced butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly.
Step 4: Add the buttermilk and egg, until just combined.
Step 5: Fold in the cheese.
Step 6: Place the dough onto a floured surface, and lightly knead. Form small 4-inch long logs and place on the prepped baking sheets, flattening slightly.
Step 7: Press a sliced almond into the end to form the fingernail.
Step 8: For added texture, use a paring knife and press lines into the ‘finger’ to create knuckles.
Step 9: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Oh wow these seriously look freaky awesome! Brilliant idea…
