Corn on the Cob cupcakes

I first saw these Corn on the Cob cupcakes in the book Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make. The minute I saw them I knew that I had to try them out for myself, food that looks like other food? Genius!

What really makes these so fun and realistic is the pat of “butter” and faux “salt and pepper”. You could easily fool people by placing these on the main food table at a party. The corn on the cob holders adds to the mind trick and makes you believe they’re actually corn. These Corn on the Cob cupcakes are super fun to make for a summer BBQ!

Ingredients:

cupcakes, baked and frosted
2 cups yellow (various colors) jelly bellys
yellow Starburst candy
black sanding sugar
white sanding sugar
corn cob holders

Instructions:

Start by placing the Jelly Bellys in rows, alternating the colors. About 4-5 rows per cupcake.

Soften the yellow Starburst by kneading it slightly, until it looks like melted butter then place the little piece of ‘butter’ on one of the cupcakes.

Sprinkle the cupcakes with black and white sanding sugar.

Place three cupcakes together then stick corn cob holders on the ends to serve.

    Where did you find the bag of Jelly beans that you had for the corn cob cupcakes? I had to buy like 17 dollars worth of mixed jelly beans from a candy shop.

    @Manda
    Yeah, I just had to mix and match at a candy store. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and find a ‘yellow’ mix pre-packaged bag, but I haven’t seen that in a while.

    Candy shops will sell the Jelly bellys in only the Buttered Popcorn flavor so I can only imagine that just ramps the realism as well.
