Disney’s Pair of Kings cupcakes
The kids are limited in their tv watching time, so the show has to be good. They asked to watch a show called ‘Pair of Kings‘ because they recognized the Marcus character (who they love) from Suite Life on Deck played by Doc Shaw. Once I started watching with them I was hooked. The actors were hilarious, the show was funny, well written and you always wanted to see what crazy thing would happen next.
This season there is a new King played by Adam Hicks (of Zeke & Luther), who is…raised by monkeys. Nevermind that the King brothers look nothing alike – adults tend to get hung up on that sort of thing but for a kid tv audience it only makes the storyline more imaginative and fun! If you haven’t started watching, now is the perfect time because tonight is the premiere of Season 3! It looks so funny, I think this is going to be the best season yet!
We went to visit the set of the show because my friend Marc is one of the writers. He also just happens to have written all of the kids’ fave episodes, as we realized when they recited lines back to him word…for word from two seasons ago. Hey, my kids have good memories and they know what they like.
The kids toured the set, met the cast and even gave Ryan Ochoa his very first box of Pocky. We never go anywhere without gifts, you know! While the kids handed out their boxes of Pocky I baked cupcakes for the cast and crew. Not just any cupcakes, chocolate ganache cupcakes topped with the show symbol: the Kinkow swirl!
There are subtle ways you can bring intricate symbols to life in edible form. Sure you can hand carve fondant (superhero cupcakes), use cookies (Yoda cupcakes) or even use edible images (Daredevil cupcakes for Mark Waid), but it doesn’t have to be that complicated.
I printed out an image of the Kinkow symbol on cardstock, then using an xacto I cut out the symbol, leaving a paper template.
I rolled out a small round of plain white fondant.
Using a clean kitchen paintbrush and food coloring, I laid the template down and ‘painted’ the yellow on top of the template.
When you lift it up, the image is revealed! I let the fondant and edible paint dry overnight…
…then I used edible pearl dustand brushed some shimmer on top of the symbols.
I placed them on top of the cupcakes and we handed them out to the cast and crew. The kids had a great time and I think the Baby is now hooked on showbiz for his future. sigh. I’m not ready to be a Dance Mom.
Many thanks to the cast and crew of Pair of Kings – here’s to a great new season!
