Flautas
Really, is there anything better than fried food?? Well, it’s not the healthiest we can all agree to that, plus frying things at home can be such a drag.
One of the kid’s favorite meals is flautas so I made some up that I can bake in the oven. They crisped up perfectly and honestly it was hard to tell the difference between these and the fried version. Don’t let the prep fool you, they are simple and quick to make!
Flautas
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
homemade taco seasoning
flour tortillas
melted butter
Instructions:
In a pan over medium high heat, brown the ground beef and sprinkle the taco seasoning on top. Simmer for a few minutes, then set aside.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prep a sheet pan with foil and then a wire rack on top.
In the center of the flour tortilla and spoon about 4-5 Tablespoons of the meat filling. Tightly roll the tortilla, securing it with toothpicks. (You’ll remove these later.)
Once they are all rolled, brush with melted butter. Bake for 15-20 minutes until browned and crisp.
Take the toothpicks out before serving. Best with salsa and guacamole.
another awesome recipe, i am deathly afraid of deep frying (i can barely handle pan frying, hate those drops of oil that spit!). i assumed this was deep fried but i LOVE that it’s baked! you’re a genius, thank you!
can’t wait to try this!*drools* thanks for the recipe!
Think I’ll try this tonight! Maybe put the cheese in before baking though? Thanks again Jenn!
Coolest cup ever!!! Where did you get it?
My nickname is Rocket, so I am absolutely in love with it!
I love your site too! You are so talented!
This is very similar to the recipe I use, only I use cooking spray on them, not butter and then sprinkle with just a touch of sea salt! Yum!
@Jacque
Pottery Barn kids used to have them, but it’s been some time now!
do you send them to lunch with your child cold?
This was a big FAIL for me. The flautas came out floppy. 🙁
