Follow My Lead cupcakes for Kate Noble

Kate Noble is an author of romance novels. Her book ‘Compromised‘ became a national bestseller and her newest book is called ‘Follow My Lead‘. Kate is about to bring the ultimate romance tale to life and get married! For her bachelorette party her friends wanted cupcakes and I wanted to reflect her work in sugary form.

If you look at most romance novels the covers usually feature ‘headless heroines’ or ‘headless heroes’ basically you just see the character’s body so that you use your imagination to create the visuals or perhaps even picture yourself as the main character. That’s not to say that other covers aren’t tried.

For Kate’s book ‘Follow My Lead‘ there was a trial cover with a full scene, the woman (face shown) followed by a man (who looked quite jaunty), in other words it was a complete picture. In the end, the final cover for the book ended up being a headless heroine which allowed you to use your imagination for the characters.

I knew I wanted to feature the variant cover so I printed out the images of the book and jaunty lad in edible ink on edible paper.

The cover looked like a painting so I decided to highlight it by making picture frames out of chocolate. I melted down some high quality Belgian chocolate over a double boiler and poured it into chocolate molds. Froze them for a minute and then popped them out. I placed the edible image right onto the chocolate frame.

As for the Jaunty Lad, the image was kind of too small for a huge frame so I improvised (note: this is also an easy way to make a delicious edible frame if you don’t have molds) I took a simple Hershey’s chocolate bar and broke it along the score lines into pieces and placed the edible image in the center.

Using a #5 tip I piped white frosting along the edge of the image.

Then I placed edible pearls to frame it and cheesed it up extra with a little pink heart. I also added edible pearls to the larger chocolate frames to tie it all together.

I made Diet Coke cupcakes ( favorite drink of the bride2be) with a brown sugar whipped cream. Topped off with the chocolate framed book cover – the cupcakes were romantically delicious. Now there’s a book title. Hm… Congrats to Kate Noble!
