Foodbuzz 24×24: The Ultimate Star Wars party!
If you’ve come here looking for May the 4th ideas, check out allll my Star Wars recipes here.
I throw a lot of parties, so when this month’s Foodbuzz 24×24 called for “kids parties” – well, I knew I just had to get in on that. The theme was Kids Table – presented by Frigidaire for Save The Children.
I’ve done Batman parties, even Elmo parties, oddly enough, never a Star Wars party! The kids love Clone Wars and I am a huge fan of the original movies or as the Baby calls them, “Movies 4, 5, and 6.” sigh. Kids.
For this party, my plan was to screen the movies and go over the top with the food. While I do own the two Star Wars cookbooks, they weren’t very useful. Instead I tried to create my own new recipes with lots of obscure fan references, just because that’s what makes party themes so much fun.
All my parties start with thumbnail sketches, planning out all the food ideas as well as the plating and ingredients. Then I made a rundown of what needed to be cooked when, so that it all came out exactly at the start time of the party. I also printed out a bunch of cards with the names of each dish. (I’ve put it in pdf form for you to download for free HERE.)
Here’s what the menu looked like:
Yoda Oreos and Blue Milk
Of course I’m starting with something sweet, since that’s what I love most. The blue milk was a HIT with the kids and a head scratcher to those who weren’t super fans…
The Yoda heads just screamed out to be made into Oreos, don’t you think? The color is from using matcha (green tea) powder, which gave them a nice flavor too.
Princess Leia cupcakes
Princess Leia is my absolute favvvvorite and I have been wanting to do a Leia cupcake for a long time. It’s the ‘do that makes the woman.
Han Solo in Carbonite Jell-o
This couldn’t have worked out better. Sure he’s not in the right pose, but people still thought it was freakin’ hilarious. The Baby was ticked that I ruined a perfectly good Han figure, though.
Cloud City pops
When you go to visit Lando, this is what he serves you….right before he stabs you in the back. Jerk.
Yoda Soda
Bubbly and sweet. A little taste of Dagobah.
Death Star Watermelon
That’s no watermelon!! Hey, it’s not a party until someone carves a superweapon out of a melon, am I right?? Hm.
Sarlacc Pit dip, Spicy Yoda Ears & Ewok food
Fun snacks that take NO prep time – are the best.
Double sided Lightsaber hot dogs and Bacon wrapped Pretzel Lightsabers
Single or double lightsaber, whichever you choose, they are both delicious.
Han burgers
Little teriyaki beef sliders – the perfect size for a party!
Vader Taters
My kids were disappointed that I didn’t carve Vader’s face into these. Geez. They know me too well.
Star Wars Pumpkin
It’s October – and I seem to spend my entire Fall carving things out of food, don’t ask me why. I put this out on the porch to welcome everyone and to let them know what they were in for…
What made this party so easy was my love the original movies. I had ideas for about 20 more dishes but I had to stop myself.
I sent all the kids home with little party containers of their very own Ewok food.
In the end, movies were watched, there were lightsaber fights, and lots and lots of eating. It was a super fun party, everyone got a kick out of the food, and most importantly – Han was finally set free from his Jell-o prison….
Here’s the whole menu:
Han burgers
Vader Taters
Yoda Oreos
Blue Milk
Princess Leia Cupcakes
Han Solo in Carbonite Jell-o
Cloud City pops
Yoda Soda
Death Star Watermelon
Ewok food
Spicy Yoda ears
Double sided Lightsaber Hot Dogs
Bacon wrapped pretzel lightsabers
Sarlacc Pit dip
Star Wars Pumpkin
**I was interviewed at the official Star Wars blog about this party! (here)
“This is not the party you’re looking for.”
O.M.G. I don’t even know where to start. Other than to say that I read thru the post, and all the recipe posts thereafter, completely slackjawed. And in total and complete AWE.
This may be the most amazingly executed theme party EVER.
I bow down to greatness……
YOU ROCK!!!!!
ABSO-FREAKING AWESOME.
Ha! Darlene wins best comment award. This is so fantastic, Jenn! Especially the blue milk. 🙂 And I’d love to hear the ideas for the stuff you didn’t end up making.
This looks amazing! I cannot wait to make the Princess Leia cupcakes for my kid someday.
Epic. Absolutely epic. Sarlaac Pit Dip: ingenious.
I want to know what the 20 other ideas were!
Duuude!
I want this for my party next year! Holla 35!
Oh, WOW!
WOW!!!!
OMG. Amazing. A.Ma.Zing.
I am forwarding this to all my friends and loved ones as a hint that if they ever throw me a party, this is what I want.
Your the bestest! and all I can say is WOW!
The Yoda cookies! The Princess Leia cupcakes! The Han Solo in Jell-O!
You are awesome!
I can’t believe you have 20 more ideas. I wouldn’t have thought up any of those. Just wow!
WOW. Anyone who attended that party should feel LUCKY. Awesome!
So, does it take over a thousand years to digest that Sarlacc Pit Dip?
Except they are not really her ideas. There is a Star Wars cookbook where most of these things are listed. you can buy it on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Cookbook-Wookiee-Galactic/dp/0811821846/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1286220882&sr=8-1
This is amazing!! Seriously, I love every little detail.
You are soooo talented; I love it!!!!
I love how creative everything is! Your ideas are always so cute!
@Nicky
Yeah, if you noticed, I mentioned the books in the beginning of the post – that I wanted to make up my own recipes instead.
I’m crying. Literally sitting here crying.
the Yoda oreos are genius!!
This is incredible — my hubby and I are both in awe. Our son would love a party like this! Ideas for next year are brewing… 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I want you to cater my life. I love this!
Incredible! The death star watermelon is so cool. What lucky kids!
How awesome is this party! I love that Princess Leia’s hairdo is made out of Oreos, who knew? 😉
Totally amazing! You are extraordinary. Have just had a little robot party for my 4yo, complete with r2d2 cake but I know that someday in a galaxy not so far away, we will be having an all out Star Wars shindig and I will definately use some of your ideas!
You are A Genius. TAH thinks so, too.
xoxo,
TDR
(wow, some people are just unhappy huh? but I digress!)
duuuuude, I was one of the lucky ones! This party ROCKED! I was blown away by all the creative ideas. I kept shouting to my husband, “did you see Han in the Jello?” “Oh, you gotta come see the double light sabers in the oven!” “OMG, did you SEE the Death Star…carved on a WATERMELON?!!!!” And man, not only was the food great, the kids were like, “momma, if we eat the Jello, does that mean we’re Leia cause we’re getting him out?” How cute is that?!
I am soo glad we were able to make it. Though my little one was too young to really enjoy the genius of it all (but still came donned with his Vader Shirt), me and my husband had a blast…and that’s a compliment coming from my very geeky Star Wars/Clone Wars lovin’ hubby. 🙂 Kudos! And I’ve posted this to all my fellow Star Wars Fans – they’re gonna love it. Thanks for sharing your ‘force’ with us!
so absolutely amazing!
i don’t normally comment. i only lurk 🙂 but this is so totally cool that i just had to say: you. are. awesome! i love it all!
WOW JENN! I love, love, love what you did! Now I want to have a party just so I can do the Star Wars theme.
I LOVE this party, has to be the best star wars themed party I’ve seen! The double lightsaber is by far my fav!
Best party ever! If my kids are Star Wars fans I will absolutely throw a party like this for them – but secretly it’ll be for me 😀 Awesome job!!
This is amazing!
I am going to convince my son that he needs to have a Star Wars party in November for his birthday.
I have the BIGGEST smile on my face. THANK YOU!! You have truly got a wonderful party sense. Hope your season is super memorable….soooo funny!
Kathleen
This is very impressive. I bet the kids (and the parents) loved it.
What amazing ideas! Now that they have released the dates for Star Wars in 3D, this would be the ultimate kick-off party!!! Way to use the force!
Great looking party! I hope the guests were as big of fans of Star Wars as you are.
okay. so i’ve come to the conclusion that you are my soulmate.
i did a star trek party pre-theatre when the new movie came out but it was nowhere as awesome as this.
KUDOS!
OMG – This is SO much fun! I love it. The Ewok food is just cutest. Great 24×24, so creative!
Fun party it was… Hmmmm?
the best kids’ party i’ve seen 🙂 so much fun just looking at the food.
My boyfriend is a total Star Wars nerd. I am so making one of these for him! I just love those Princess Leia cupcakes! They are serisously adorable. Thanks! Great idea for a party!
Wow. You are a creative genius. I love everything.
next time invite me will you? I mean I have a vintage star wars lunch box and all…
the cupcakes are my fave. Too awesome.
Great party! I want to come. Totally get the blue milk! My family loves Star Wars! I have an original Empire Strikes Back Pop-Up book that I can’t let my kids be alone with yet.
AWESOME!! Standing ovation here. Love, love the cleverness, han burgers, heh! Just brilliant. (Btw, I once made Yoda macarons flavoured with green tea 😉 )
This is a magnificent post. This is great article post describe Foodbuzz 24×24: The Ultimate Star Wars party.Yoda Oreos and Blue Milk I love the most. All the pictures are amazingly great.
I showed these to my kids last night and they agreed that this is awesome. My son tells me now that he’s having a Tom & Jerry and Star Wars party with Princess Leia cupcakes.
He plays with my husband’s 30-year-old action figures. We’ve also got some cool Empire Strikes Back drinking glasses from 1985 that were sold at Burger King. We only use them for special occasions and even then it makes my husband very nervous. LOL.
omg, these are BRILLIANT!!! i have many friends ( who are, by definition, grown men) that would go NUTS over all this stuff. What a great party 🙂
So fabulous. You win the mom of the year award!
The cupcakes are my favorite too! It’s definitely all about the do!
Wow! I love the design of the cupcakes! Thematic and dramatic cupcakes. LOL
This is so amazing!! I’m not a Star Wars person (*hides*), but as a big fan of some other things, I can really appreciate a theme party like this. You really went above and beyond!
This is beyond amazing! I’m inspired and hungry!
Amazing! Have you seen the “Store wars” video (storewars.org or you can youtube it) this reminds me so much of that, except they are promoting organic food and buying local produce…which i guess is what you do too! I’m gonna show this to my hubby, thanks for the great post!
When you saw someone picking at the food with their fingers, were you tempted to say, “Use the Fork ..”?
I thought it was funny ..
You can come and cater for my 19th!
OMG. You officially have my admiration. My son would LOVE this stuff. If I start now, I might have them ready for his birthday next year. Many kudos to you and thanks for sharing!
AWESOME!
What an AMAZING spread! I haven’t read a post that’s gotten me this excited for a long time! I loved how your named everything and the cupcakes are too cute! Amazing job! The kids probably had the best time! That is really great you put so much time, creativity and effort into it. I wish I had such fun themed parties to attend!
TOTALLY nailed it!!!! My soon-to-be 5 yr old has been a fan his “whole life”! We are doing a pumpkin patch party but he wants to have Star Wars decorations which I couldn’t figure out how to mesh so thank you, thank you! You’re brilliant.
This is beyond awesome. I have much appreciation for someone who can take a theme and run with it through every detail. Love the Sarlacc Pit Dip!
Also, you make the cutest theme cupcakes! If only I could think of ideas like that my boyfriend would bow down to my baked goods 🙂
Wow! That’s the best Star Wars party ever! I especially love your Princess Leia cupcakes!
I just linked your site to my post about how to make your own Lightsaber Jello!
http://bit.ly/a9eSvZ
LOVE IT! I couldn’t stop laughing at your totally cool and creative dishes! I’m torn with the Leia cupcakes, the carbonite jello and Yoda Soda! WONDERFUL job!!
Awesome awesome awesome!
I just love the little touches. We did a Star Wars (& Phineas and Ferb) themed party for the 5 year old’s birthday this summer, and I wish I’d thought of some of these ideas. (We did have a deathstar canteloupe though!)
I’ll be linking on Dabbled.org tomorrow 🙂
No JaJa Drinks,Womp Ratatouille,Salacious Crumb cakes?
If only I had stumbled across this site sooner my son’s party is this saturday 10-23.. 8 6 and 7 year olds who all love star wars gonna try and pull off some of the items after all I do have to feed them since it’s a sleep over.. what was I thinking.lol.. how did you make up the food cards they look great
Ive got some good party ideas from this. Halloween is gonna be a scary one! Cheers
OMG, you are amazing !
I love it all…
@Barb
I designed the food cards myself – thanks!
I see you found the STAR WARS cookbooks 😛 Impressive spread none the less, and I too have the cookie stamps, personally I’m more of Vader person 🙂 Nicely done
i LOVED this, and i’m not even a star wars fan! (i’m a Lord of the Rings, nerd, myself). I would PAY to see what you could do with that theme! 🙂
Wow, there are no words for how awesome and creative this party was. My husband has his own star wars “room” in our house and he is in complete awe….
Awesome, awesome party. Great for kids but I’m already thinking I should do this for my boyfriend’s birthday.
These things are simply amazing. Very creative. Love it.
That must have been a Fantastic Party! Admirable artwork, I love the Yoda heads they are very cute. Keep ’em coming!

I did a search for Leia birthday party as that is what my daughter wants this year. You have a wealth of ideas, all of which are awesome!! What were some of the other ideas you had but didn’t use?
She and her baby brother, who will be one year old 6 days after she turns 7, are having a combined Star Wars party. She wanted Leia and we are doing Chewie for him. Any ideas?
Thanks for sharing your fabulous stuff!
I love all of your ideas. WONDERFUL!!!!! and very creative. One question for you… did you make the display rack for the “cloud city pops”. It doesn’t look like a cupcake display, but just for the marshmallow pops. Awesome!!!!
Mary
Hi Jenn,
Just wanted to say thanks for my AWESOME Yoda cookies. They were so delicious. My husband and I absolutely loved them. We still have two left, but I’m sure they’ll get eaten tonight. It was so nice to meet you this weekend. This Star Wars party is so incredible, my husband totally wants one for his big 4-0!
Cheers,
Sabrina
I am someone that appreciates a good theme, and this is AMAZING. Just had ten people crowded around my computer at work, and a couple of mums who don’t want their kids to see this, on the basis that their kids will love it, and they don’t think they can execute party food to this level of awesomeness.
Way to go!
OMG! my friend sent me this link because she and I both are major nerds.
the Yoda cookies! omg… how COOL were they?!?
so awesome! the names of the food, and everything was just brilliant. 🙂
WOW! You are AMAZING!!
I just wanted to THANK YOU for sharing your recipes. I just finished the dishes from my son’s First Birthday party. YOUR Yoda cookies and Princess Leia cupcakes were delicious and the hit of the party. I loved the lightness of the cookies and the recipe was so easy. I see myself making these again soon. The cupcakes were too cute. I pretty much made those for me. I had to make Han Sol in carbonite jell- o too, because he just made me smile.
Anyway you made my day!
Baller. In fact, far too baller for me to even attempt. I resent you for being so baller. In the future, please keep your baller-ness to yourself to avoid making me feel inferior.
THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!
^__^
Great ideas! I linked to this in my blog.
me and family are huge star wars fans. i used your recipes and the kids all loved my sons birthday party and asked if we can do it next weekend 🙂 thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Would you mind sharing the template for the food cards?
Aloha and Mahalo for such amazing ideas! I just want to say that my son is going to have the most amazing birthday an 8 yo can have this weekend! Our decoration them was Star Wars and Mad Science of Hawaii was doing the activity part — but I didn’t know what direction I wanted the food to go. Now, I know! So far we are doing the blue milk, heroes and villians cookies, space ship cookies, Han-burgers, dog lightsabers, the pretzel lightsabers, we are coloring mayo – blue, Mustard – green and then red ketchup (for the colors of the lightsabers) for condiments for the lightsabers and Han-burgers! We are doing our own version of Yoda ears which will be fancied up pickles. Ewok food and Han in Carbonite….but we are probably going to make it glow in the dark jello since Mad Science is going to do a Glow in the Dark demo! We are making a Star Wars cake with glow sticks turned into lightsabers! And because of your wonderful ideas in this blog, I was able to do it on a budget! But this is much better than regular hotdogs, hamburgers or pizza for a kids party! MAHALO!
A friend of mine knows my love of all things Star Wars and pointed your blog out to me. LOVE this! So much I’m going to throw a star wars party just to make tons of fun food! First up, pulled pork sliders, called JarJar Sliders because I’m quite certain JarJar Binks does not taste like chicken.
I wanted to let you know how much I LOVE these ideas–I incorporated many of them into my son’s recent 5th birthday party. People squealed over Han Solo; the Death Star watermelon was a hit; and the kids could not get enough of Yoda Soda. My son had demanded that I make an AT-AT cake for him, and this spread went perfectly with it!
You are genius. Sheer Genius!
I actually just said, aloud, “Sweet Jesus and the stars above” about this party. I mean, jeesum crow that is fabulous. You are awesome. Made of win. I hope you don’t mind if I recreate your party at my place soon.
I may just have to do this for my husband’s birthday in the winter.
Too awesome!! 🙂
I do have a question about the Yoda oreos. Do you have to use matcha powder? It’s super expensive where I live. Any other suggestions?
@Kelly
It’s expensive where I live too. The only thing I can suggest is maybe to buy it online here, but other than that – no I don’t recommend substitutions, nothing can replace matcha! 😉
AH! I can’t believe I haven’t seen this before. You are freaking awesome! Yes!
You should do a part II star wars party for the recipes you didn’t do yet.
WOW! Just WOW! I loved this!!! I put your ideas on my website, if you want to check it out go here.
https://sites.google.com/site/lotrawesomeness12/lord-of-the-rings/awesomenerdyparties
This really is fantastic! What an imagination you have!
Jenn, this is super and has given me tons of ideas for my son’s birthday coming up! What did you guys do for party favors? I want something unique and fun, not the same old boring stuff!!
Great Ideas! I featured this on my Star Wars Party Idea round-up. http://trophyw.blogspot.com/2011/08/star-wars-round-up.htmlThanks for sharing.
AMAzing!!!
Great Star Wars food ideas! Love the Han Solo Jello..ha! We had a big Star Wars party awhile back with lots of silly food as well. Just put them all in one post. I am going to put a link to yours as well. Let me know if that is ok. You did a great job!
Love your Stars Wars food ideas! The Han Solo Jello cracks me up! We just gathered our Star Wars party food into one post that we did awhile back. I would love to link yours..let me know if that is ok. You did a great job!
Great ideas! Me and my friends are going to have a Star Wars party soon (because some of them haven’t seen the movies…which is crazy!) and I was looking for some fun food ideas! Thanks for this post! Definitely going to be using some of these. The Han Solo Jello was awesome.
Thanks for all of the great Star Wars party ideas. Just had a party this morning and used some of your ideas. The kids had a great time, and the adults were tickled by some of the food names (everybody loved the Carbonite Jell-O…I used grape jello with a purple-tinted Pyrex pan).
Cheers!
WOW! This is all so do-able! I love these ideas and plan to steal them for my hubby’s next SW day!
I savour, lead to I discovered exactly what I used to be looking for. You’ve ended my four day lengthy hunt! God Bless you man. Have a great day. Bye
Hi! Thanks for the great ideas!! How did you make the label cards for the food dishes? Do you have a template/font I could use? Thanks!!
You are the coolest! Last time I made SW cookies I iced each cookie which took FOREVER. Just making them into sandwiches is brilliant. Now I’m wavering between doing an SW party or “Despicable Me” for my son.
I guess. If you happen to be searching for SWTOR guide reviews, check out this video!
I love this. Just had to share it with my family. We made raw vegan Star Wars cupcakes in our house around the same time as this post. Check it out: http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2011/10/raw-vegan-star-wars-cupcakes.html
Love these ideas & using a bunch for my son’s party-where did you find the Star Wars font for the display cards?
Amazing. Vader Pataters may have just made my life. Congratulations on your amazing creativity! 😉
I was recommended this blog by means of my cousin. I’m no longer positive whether or not this post is written through him as nobody else know such certain approximately my trouble. You’re amazing! Thanks!
Love all your ideas! I was also wondering how you made your display cards. So creative.
I’ve put a pdf of the food place cards HERE for you to download for free!
You are my new hero! Hard to find just the right stuff for a little GIRL SW fan.
This is seriously wonderful, such detail! I laughed so much at the han solo in jello 😀 and the sarlacc pit dip!
That is amazing. Star wars party for my 6 year old tomorrow – low key. Taking them to the movies for the 3D version. you’ve inspired me. We might have to have another star wars party when he is 7.
Hey Jenn! I was wondering if you could post a tutorial on how you did the food cards? I saw your PDF but would love to customize these for my own party!
Thanks!
Wow, I love these great food ideas! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures, the how-to’s, and the signage. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for sharing! These are such great ideas. I cannot wait to use for my little jedi’s birthday. Any chance you could tell us the font you used?
Nice post. I be taught one thing more challenging on completely different blogs everyday. It should all the time be stimulating to learn content material from other writers and observe just a little one thing from their store. I’d choose to make use of some with the content on my blog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link on your net blog. Thanks for sharing.
AMAZING! My nephew is having a Star Wars themed party and all your ideas are absolutely great!!!! OMG I am smiling ear to ear with all you nifty food creations. I think I will make the Princess Leia cupcakes and the Hans Solo Jell-O. Blue Milk and Ewok food are great ideas too. You’re awesome!
I am definitely going to rip off all of your ideas! They are the cutest ones I’ve seen so far! Love it!
I am totally taking all these ideas for bounty, lol. I’m throwing a huge party at Celebration VI and these will be a blast!
Hello there! This is my first visit to your blog!
We are a group of volunteers and starting a new project in a community
in the same niche. Your blog provided us useful information
to work on. You have done a marvellous job!
Hey there I am so glad I found your site, I really found you by accident, while I was looking on Yahoo for something else,
Nonetheless I am here now and would just like to say kudos for a fantastic post and a all round exciting blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have
time to read through it all at the minute but I have saved it and also added in your RSS feeds,
so when I have time I will be back to read much more, Please
do keep up the superb work.
What a information of un-ambiguity and preserveness of precious familiarity concerning unpredicted emotions.
all the time i used to read smaller articles that also clear their motive, and that is also
happening with this post which I am reading at this place.
I enjoy reading an article that can make people think.
Also, thank you for allowing for me to comment!
Good day! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog.
Is it difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m
thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? With thanks
you are really a good webmaster. The site loading speed is incredible.
It seems that you are doing any unique trick.
Also, The contents are masterwork. you’ve performed a magnificent task on this topic!
Heya i’m for the first time here. I found this board and I find It truly useful & it helped me out much. I hope to give something back and help others like you aided me.
Appreciating the time and energy you put into your website and detailed information you present.
It’s great to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed material.
Excellent read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m including your
RSS feeds to my Google account.
If you’re not sure what you feel, can you take some time to be still. American diet to “heart-healthy” eating-increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables and grains-has lead to increasing demand for fresh foods that are not in season most of the year. If you have never heard of or purchased meats from Zaycon foods, you are missing out on some great products at great prices.
Our party is coming up & I can’t wait to use some of these ideas!! Thank you SO much for sharing!!!
These ideas are awesome!
OMG! Thank you for the ideas! My son (7) wants a SW birthday party so I googled… and found your blog. Your ideas will come to the Czech Republic (Central Europe) next week 🙂
