Game of Thrones Daenerys Horse Heart Cupcakes

I’m always up for a cupcake challenge and my friend Autumn requested special cupcakes for her baby shower. Not just any cupcakes, Game of Thrones cupcakes themed around Daenerys’ eating the heart of a horse to give her unborn son strength. Uh, I get the symbolism but will her Grandmother and the other party guests at the traditional baby shower get it?

I have a hard time making things that aren’t pleasant to look at, (I like cute things!) and this was a challenge but for the Mother of Dragons, anything! When they were all said and done and my kid saw them and gagged, I knew I was right on track.

After many sketches and ideas, I decided to make the heart out of pate de fruit, a French fruit jelly, similar to a solid jell-o molded into anatomically correct heart shapes.

The pate de fruit held up great and the hearts looked very real in person. May Autumn and her new baby have a happy, healthy future and rule the Seven Kingdoms!

Ingredients:

16 ounces frozen strawberries, thawed
1/2 cup strawberry jam
1/2 cup sugar
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
2/3 cup cold water

red velvet cupcakes
cream cheese frosting
2/3 cup guava jelly
red gel food dye

Instructions:

Place thawed strawberries in the blender and pulse until smooth.

Add the jam and sugar and puree.

Strain the puree into a large pot and boil for about 8 minutes, stirring constantly making sure it doesn’t boil over. Set aside.

In a small bowl sprinkle the gelatin packs over the cold water. Once the gelatin is absorbed, microwave in 15 second intervals until the gelatin dissolves.

Stir the dissolved gelatin into the fruit puree and let cool down slightly.

Spoon the puree into heart molds. Place the filled molds in the freezer until solid.

When you are ready to unmold, pop them out and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge.

Place on top of the frosted cupcakes.

In a small bowl stir together the guava jelly with a drop of red food gel dye. Spoon over the hearts on top of the cupcakes and serve.

Very creative! I haven’t seen “Game of Thrones” but there’s a similar type of scene in “American Horror Story” with a raw brain. I wonder what food they used as a stand-in for brain matter. I’m guessing it was some kind of gelatin.

  3. That’s pretty cool! Love Game of Thrones too. Man, there’s a lot of blood on that show!

Thank you so much for creating these! I made them right before the premiere of 2nd season and meant to send in pics. I used pectin instead because I have a veggie friend. Thanks again!

These look great! Do you have the brand name of the molds or can you let me know what the name of the store is? Thank you!

@YM Sorry, no. Bakery supply stores that sell candy making supplies should have them!
