Ghirardelli Bake Off
This weekend I went up to San Francisco because I was a semi-finalist in the Ghirardelli bake off! I have always loved Ghirardelli and to be a part of that event was such a great feeling! The Bake Off was party of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival, a huge event in the Square that draws over 40,000 people.
The recipe I submitted was for Chocolate Mochi Brownies, which is always a favorite when I make them. Using Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate and Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips enhanced the flavor of the recipe.
While I didn’t win, I sure felt like it since I came home with a ton of swag and also got to eat my weight in chocolate for free. I also got to have my recipe tasted by Ghirardelli execs and guest judge Tim Nugent of Top Chef Desserts fame. I was honored to be chosen as a finalist especially since they tested and ate all the submissions just to narrow it down to us!
I stayed with a good friend in San Francisco and I can tell you that her kids loved the Mochi Brownies so much they kept asking for more. That’s almost as good as a win to me!
**updated: This recipe is now available in my new book: Mochi: recipes from savory to sweet! on amazon.com.
I can’t imagine how good something had to be to top the rave recommendations you received for your recipe. Congrats on being a finalist — that’s something to be proud of!
You’ll always be a winner in my book 😉 CONGRATS on getting into the finals. Mochi’s the best.
Those brownies are a winner in my book. And so are you!! What an experience. Congrats!!
Congratulations Jenn! That is awesome. I am surprised you didn’t win the whole damn thing because these chocolate mochi brownies are always a HUGE hit whenever I make them. I will be making them for the 5th time tomorrow to take to my husband’s work party. I live in Hawaii and when a mochi recipe is a hit with the Hawaii crowd, you know it’s a winner because we are mochi snobs! Thanks for your awesome recipes Jenn.
It was nice that you were picked as a finalist. I won Best Creative in that competition.. My entry was French Macarons filled w/ White chocolate ganache w/ fresh raspberries and rose water AND semi sweet chocolate ganache and and toasted Hazel nut paste. I remember you.
