Ghostbusters Gingerbread House for the Holidays
Christmas is finally here and the decorations are what really makes it feel like the holidays. I just love gingerbread houses so much, because I spent my whole childhood making them with my mom. It’s a great family project and allows you to stretch your creativity.
There was a time when I would make multiple gingerbread houses all from scratch, now I barely have time to even complete one. Since I had this pre-made house on hand I decided to do a little transformation and theme it out!
So you know when a home gets abandoned and an unwanted spook, specter, or ghost moves in? Yeah…my gingerbread house has a supernatural problem and I don’t know who to call. It’s Ghostbusters, obviously! Nothing says “happy holidays” like some friendly edible hauntings.
But first, demo. I can never leave anything alone that’s pre-made. The architect in me created a lovely skylight to get some fresh air into the dusty old house, and a secondary exit because a single family home with one exit? Def not in compliance.
Once that was done the decorating began, the more candy the better I say. I love a shredded wheat thatched roof and I can’t do without a goldfish pond in the front yard.
To add the Ghostbusters touches I let a homemade Mini-Puft move in, a Muncher Cookie set up shop in that new handy dandy skylight, and I placed an Ecto-1 Cookie sign on the front complete with a lifesaver candy wreath.
Landscaping is Stay Puft marshmallows, never enough marshmallows–I wish I could put them all over my real lawn, and a towering tree filled with Hallmark Itty Bitty Mini-Pufts wreaking havoc. Park an Ecto-1 in the driveway and your Ghostbusters holiday house is done!
