Ginger Pork

Ingredients:

2 lbs pork butt
1 small onion, sliced
1 clove garlic, minced
2 Tablespoons fresh ginger, chopped
3 Tablespoons sesame oil
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons vinegar

Instructions:

In a bowl combine the garlic, ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, brown sugar and vinegar.

Place the pork butt in the crock pot and lay the onion on top. Pour the sauce mixture over it and turn the crock pot on to low for 6-8 hours.

Can I substitute olive oil for the seasame? I don’t want to ruin the flavor of such a great looking dish. Unfortunately we are trying to keep our budget super trim. Thanks!

  3. justJENN says:

@Brionee Sorry, do NOT substitute olive oil for sesame, the two oils are very distinct!

  4. Christine says:

Yum, looks awesome! Can pork shoulder be used instead?

  5. justJENN says:

@Chritine Pork shoulder is the same as pork butt, believe it or not. So yes!

Silly question but it’s in all honesty that I don’t know because as much as I love using my slow cooker, there’s still much to learn. But I wanted to know if I can put the pork butt in the cooker frozen or is it supposed to be understood that meats always go in defrosted?

  7. justJENN says:

Defrosted is best. Small pieces like chicken breasts are ok frozen, but it definitely affects the moisture in the pot.

  8. justJENN says:

Always use defrosted meat in a slow cooker unless noted otherwise.
