Guardians of the Galaxy Groot Cookies
Is it possible for me to see a comic book movie and not envision some sort of comic book dessert? Answer: No.
I’ve been waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy since the movie production was announced. I read the comic as a kid because I adored raccoons and the idea of a comic with a character influenced by the Beatles’ “Rocky Raccoon” drew me in.
Rocket and Groot are pals and what better way to celebrate a friendship that endures a comic-to-movie experience than with cookies! Currently there isn’t a Groot cookie cutter available, so I had to improvise on my own. Why there isn’t an entire line of Vin Diesel bakeware, I have no idea but that’s a question for another day.
Groot, the humanoid tree, the rebuildable Flora Colossus, the Monarch of Planet X, my version? A scrumptious Brown Sugar cookie with a chocolatey bark and touch of matcha powder for his green foliage. The most kawaii Groot cookie you will ever see.
I am Groot.
I am delicious.

Guardians of the Galaxy Groot Cookies
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
chocolate frosting
black frosting
matcha (green tea) powder
Instructions:
In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer beat the butter and brown sugar until combined. Add the egg.
Slowly add in the flour mixture until it is incorporated. The dough will form quickly, and when it starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s done!
Split the dough into two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking sheets with silpats.
Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out random tree-ish shapes approx 4 inches tall and transfer onto the silpat lined baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes then let cool on a wire rack.
Using a #2 tip and chocolate frosting, pipe lines to resemble tree bark.
With the black frosting and a #3 tip add the details of two eyes and a line for Groot’s mouth.
For the final touch, use a pastry paintbrush dipped in Matcha (green tea) powder and add some hints of green to the top of Groot’s head.
Once the frosting has set, the cookies are ready to serve.
These are so fun! about how many cookies does this recipe make? Thank you!
Pretty simple to make and turned out cute, but the recipe was terrible. It made a really crumbly dough that was too difficult to roll out, and the final product had an almost stale taste to it (and it wasn’t my ingredients as they were all recently purchased). I won’t be using that recipe again.
If anybody is wondring the yeild, I managed to get 20 cookies that were 4 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide.
