Ham Bone Soup
Every year in the spring, O.G. insists on buying a ham for all of us to enjoy. The problem is some of the family doesn’t really care for ham, so there are a lot of leftovers. You can only eat so many ham sandwiches before calling it a day.
Ham bone in hand, she dropped it off at my house without asking. So I scrambled to put together something so that it didn’t go to waste. Think of this as a sort of pantry clean out dinner.
After throwing together this nice bowl of soup I returned the favor and dropped it off at her house. It’s sort of a revenge food war that never ends. I must admit though, served with Sausage and Onion Muffins it made for a nice warm dinner!
Ham Bone Soup

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes with juice
2 cups green beans
1 cup corn
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 cups chicken stock
1 cup water
Instructions:
Step 1: Into the slow cooker, add the ham bone, onion, crushed tomatoes, green beans, and corn.
Step 2: Sprinkle on the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Step 3: Pour in the chicken stock and water.
Step 4: Set slow cooker to low and cook for 8 hours.
Looks good. I froze my bone (that sounds wrong) and I am looking for something to do w/ it. I want to make a ham soup with white beans.
I’m no cook, but it turned out good!
Instead of just a ham bone, I put a whole ham steak in there.
I love ham. 🙂
To save time, I pan-seared the ham and onions, then boiled them with the tomatoes and salt and pepper for an hour instead of 5 hours.
I also added ramen noodles to a small batch 3 minutes before serving for my 5 year old son – he loves the movie Ponyo, and it’s the best way for me to get him to eat any hind of soup.
