Ice Cream Jello
Jell-o was always served at parties in our family. Jell-o is so versatile it can be served plain or fancy, from layered, to sparkling, to everyone’s favorite Broken Glass Jell-o.
I fondly remember this Ice Cream Jell-o because just the idea of ice cream plus Jell-o sounds intriguing. By stirring in ice cream, it will magically float to the top of the Jell-o all on it’s own. With absolutely no work on your part you’ll get a creamy, Jell-o concoction that looks great on any party table!
Ice Cream Jello
Ingredients:
2 large packages (6 oz each) Jell-o (any flavor)
1 packet of unflavored Knox gelatin
4 cups boiling water
3-1/2 cups vanilla ice cream about 3/4 quart
Instructions:
In a large bowl combine the Jell-o, unflavored gelatin and the boiling water. Whisk until dissolved.
Add the ice cream until it is melted and combined. Feel free to measure,but I just cut an ice cream container in half!
Pour mixture into a 9″ x 13″ pan. Refrigerate overnight, cut into squares and serve.
If serving for a party, I suggest putting the cut pieces and placing into cupcake liners.
oooh… this reminds me of the “double decker knox blox” my mom used to make. She used heavy cream instead of ice cream though. i may have to try these.
This sounds very cool indeed. Like part science experiment! Yes it’s true, everything is getting smaller nowadays 🙁
This look like SO much fun and YUMMMMMY! Thanks for sharing. I always LOVE all of your recipes!
This looks like a great science experiment to do with the kids. thanks!
With those colors this would be great for the 4th of July! Orange jello would be good like a Creamsicle, yum!
What exactly is the taste and texture of this? It looks really good, but I am really particular about textures of the food I eat. Can’t help it :\
@babette
The bottom is just jello, the top is creamy and frothy.
These look amazing and I was totally inspired to make some.. just one problem: I wanted to put them outside for a party and I’m worried they’ll melt.Will they? And if so, any idea how long it’ll take for them to melt so that I can refrigerate beforehand?
@baker: I made mine for an outdoor party too – I just kept half in the fridge, then rotated them out every hour or so. They went pretty quickly too though, so it wasn’t that bad.
These things look great and I’m considering making them for the 4th of July since they look festive. But what exactly do they taste like, if you could explain? Like gooey or rich? Thank you.
@katie See above response to @babette. The bottom is just jello. The top is more soft and cream like.
This was SO easy to make. I can’t wait to taste it on 4th of July. Yay. 🙂
Just featured you yummy looking dessert on my blog, The Handmade Experiment in a list of recipes I want to try. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am on the 1st day of a auto detox diet plan. I haven’t had a activity to eat all day and I’m STARVING!! I cannot accede how individuals say that they did not feel ardent bold this. I’m aswell a bit bloodless and all-a-quiver and like I said, this is abandoned the anterior day. I’m not a abounding abandoned or huge eater either. I’m not complete how broadcast I wil last. At the ability of the day I am appetite myself which can’t be an able thing. I’ll try to stick at it though, I’m just avaricious that the blackout and weakness is traveling to carelessness or I will not acquire the adeptness to administer on my plan on Monday.
Hey, if Lady GaGa can sing about Disco Sticks, why can’t Katy Perry sing about Peacocks?
That would be a lot of stirring. 🙂 Love your recipe.
Quick question to clarify…so will one 9×13 pan contain 12oz of jello? Your recipe seems so straight forward but the “large” jello boxes at the store were all 3oz (& no 6oz – I double checked!). Thanks!
@Dahlia
Yes, two large 6oz packages equals 12 oz.
This looks very amazing and easy to make. But when I made it today, the jello and the ice cream did not separate into two layers. do u know why that is? Tnx=)
Hey Jenn! I found your website yesterday and I just can’t wait to try out some of your amazing recipes myself! I fell upon your website while searching for Hello Kitty themed foods and yours is the Heavens answering me!
I love the little name cards you place with each dish you make, what font is it?
Love this! I did it already with normal jello between ice cream jello. Now I want to try it just ice cram… Let’s see
Does this melt at room temp.?
@Kayla It’s about as stable as regular Jell-o. In other words I wouldn’t leave it out too long. At a party I usually put out half, then bring more from the fridge as needed.
I’m curious about the recipe. You say 2 boxes of Jell-O. Maybe I’m just overthinking it, you are putting 2 boxes of the same flavor into one concoction right? I think I’m just thrown by the fact you made two different flavors.
@Dan Yes, two boxes of the same flavor Jell-o.
Have you ever tried it with sugar free jello and sugar free ice cream? My mother in law was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and I am wondering if this would turn out the same if I used sugar free products.
@Carma In my opinion sugar free products never warrant the same results.
How much unflavored gelatin? One packet is 1/4oz at my store is that right?
@Chamberlain 0.25 ounces, yes.
I could make 6 colors of this for a big party. Red, green, yellow, blue, orange, teal. For teal use 1 3oz box green jello and 1 3oz box blue jello to make 6 oz.
