Kalua Pig in the crock pot
16 hours to make this?? Yes but on’t freak out. There’s only 3 ingredients and trust me, you won’t even have to work for it.
Kalua pork is savory, smoky and delicious. Even if you’re just at home sitting on your couch, the taste of this will transport you to a sandy beach in the islands!
Kalua Pig in the crock pot
Ingredients:
ingredients:
one 4-5 lb pork butt/shoulder
1 Tablespoon Hawaiian salt
1-1/2 Tablespoons liquid smoke
Instructions:
Place the pork in the slow cooker and pierce all over with a paring knife.
Rub the salt into the top of the pork and pour over the liquid smoke.
Turn the slow cooker on to low for 8 hours. Hold tight, this is just the midway mark. At this point turn the pork over, then walk away for another 8 hours.
Once the 16 hours is up shred the pork using two forks incorporating the juices.
i was waiting for this one. my family is sick of the other pork recipe 🙂 16 hours…that’s nothing! i’ve been working on my oxtail soup recipe and sadly, i have yet to figure out how to crock pot it. 16 hours on top of the stove…ugh! and i refuse to leave it on at night! hey, maybe you have some suggestions? btw, wth is liquid smoke?
Oh, it’s on, sooooo on. PORK!
16 hours!? Kalua Pork is the first think we ate when we got to Hawaii a few weeks ago, it was delicious and lured me into the false sense that it would be good everywhere, I was wrong!
This looks delicious though and looks worth the wait!
wonder if it would alter the taste or cooking process if you wrapped the pork in banana leaves?
I make this all the time, even though I live in Hawaii I don’t have an imu (not much people do. My recipe is the same except I add a little water to keep it moist and not dry. If you have a ton of Kalua Pig and cabbage left, make them into springrolls and serve with some sweet chili sauce. So ‘ono.
Can Kosher or extra coarse salt be substituted for it by any chance?
@A
Yep, kosher salt can be substituted no prob!
Do you add Kahlua at some point?
