Keeping it Fresh in the Kitchen

Keeping it Fresh in the Kitchen

A moment of silence please, my fridge died. Actually, make that my second fridge. I have two just because I need that much space to feed two growing boys. But now with one down for the count (and frankly the other one is on its last legs), it’s time to look into a new modern refrigerator that can take the place of both. As a food blogger I am always testing new recipes while still making made-from-scratch meals for the kids three times a day. Sometimes even more at the rate they are growing! So I need to maximize my space in the kitchen to prep my meals for the week.

GE is a trusted name in appliances and their refrigerators are state of the art. I’ve researched single doors, double doors – but I really think these new French Door Refrigerators are for me. The French doors give you a better look at what you have on hand as a whole and the LED lighting helps make you more aware of your ingredients. Every year I throw a huge New Year’s Day party – so more drawers, more space for taller items and party trays are a must for my menu planning.

I like to vary our meals from week to week to keep the kids interested and I involve them in both the meal planning and the shopping. I go to various Farmer’s Markets at least once, sometimes twice. a week. I’m always looking for ways to keep a fresh kitchen since most of my cooking is done with local, fresh ingredients. GE’s French Door Refrigerator is so advanced, they put it to the test by filling it with fresh food, hooked it up to a generator and drove over 2000 miles to surprise a homesick scientist in the middle of nowhere with a home-cooked meal. Click here to watch the adventure.

That hit home for me because the Baby loves fruit so much that my fridge is always packed with fresh ingredients and while we do our best – sometimes it still spoils, and that’s always a costly disappointment. The French Door Refrigerator has the ClimateKeeperâ„¢ system to keep temperatures consistent. The kids are also helping prep and cook more and more so easy accessibility within the refrigerator is also important. In the summertime the Baby’s favorite fruit salad is often our ‘main dish’:

Fresh Market Fruit Salad 1 pineapple, peeled, cored and cubed 2 navel oranges peeled, segmented, cubed 1 grapefruit, peeled, segmented, cubed 1 mango, peeled, pitted, cubed 1 cup green grapes 1 cup red grapes 2 apples, cored, cubed 1 pint strawberries, sliced 1 Tablespoon honey 1/2 cup orange juice

Toss the fruit with the honey and orange juice, refrigerate until you are ready to serve. He likes his own fruit salad to have a nice presentation, as you can tell!
