King’s Hawaiian Awards Show Party

The Academy Awards are the biggest movie celebration of the year but here in LA they’re a particularly big deal. Roads are closed a week in advance, traffic that day is crazy (more than usual) and everyone knows at least someone who works in the industry whose film you’re rooting for.

The Oscars are Hollywood’s big night and celebrating at home with friends and family with movie themed food and snacks makes the evening even more lively! King’s Hawaiian and House Party sent me a package of party goods filled with flowery award signs, shell leis and even awards show Bingo cards. I used these as a party backdrop and put together some traditional movie snacks with a Hawaiian and LA twist.

Kings Hawaiian Oscars Party

After any awards show party celebrities and attendees party late into the evening and right outside the venues waiting, are what they adore the most. No, not the fans. While I’m sure they appreciate their adoring fans, the most satisfying thing of the evening win or lose is LA’s most famous street food, the Danger Dog aka Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs. Nothing smells more like awards show win and/or crushing disappointment like a street grilled Danger Dog. So I made my bacon wrapped hot dogs the main attraction.

Grilled hot dogs wrapped in thinly sliced bacon, placed lovingly into King’s Hawaiian rolls, then wrapped in parchment and gold for guests to grab at their leisure. It’s a satisfying party food that’s always a winner.

It’s not a movie celebration without popcorn and candy! I made individual containers of Hawaiian Hurricane Popcorn, popcorn sprinkled with furikake and kakimochi, easy to grab and enjoy on the couch while watching the show. Classic theater candies with a small dish of Li-Hing Mui powder on the side for sprinkling for those who wanted to add the sour plum flavoring often found in Hawaiian snacks are a sweet way to enjoy the party.

Grab and go is the best at parties where you don’t want to miss a moment. Individual bottles of soda are easy to take from the table and because they are capped, spillage is less likely. i filled these bottles with fizzy orange pineapple soda, similar to my homemade Orangina recipe, which is always a big hit at any party.

With all these sweet party snacks ready to go, it’s time to settle in and play a little Awards Show Bingo. Enjoy the show!
