Mario Cookies
It’s a me, Mario cookie! If there ever was a face of Nintendo, Mario is it. From Super Mario Bros. to Mario Kart, Mario has evolved throughout the generations. His face is instantly recognizable and this adorable Mario cookie cutter by Sweet Prints Inc. gets every detail just right.
I used two doughs, a vanilla dough and a red dyed dough for the face and hat. All the small face details were piped icing, with the addition of the heart sprinkle for the tongue. Through research for this cookie I learned one important thing, Mario’s hair is brown and his mustache is black! Conspiracy! Is that mustache a fake? Say it ain’t so, Mario!
Mario Cookies
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 Tablespoon vanilla
red food gel dye
you’ll need:
Mario cookie cutter
white icing
black icing
blue icing
brown icing
heart sprinkles
Instructions:
Whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and the sugar. Add the egg and vanilla.
Slowly add the dry ingredients until the dough comes together. Separate the dough into two, wrapping one half in plastic wrap to refrigerate and leaving the other in the mixer. To the half in the mixer add a few drops of red food gel dye.
Mix well to incorporate the color. Once thoroughly mixed in, wrap in plastic wrap and keep in the refrigerator.
When ready to bake, roll out the vanilla dough to about 3/8 of an inch. Detailed cookie cutters always need a little help so make sure you always dip it in flour before each use, then press down to get a clean impression.
Cut around the hairline and the hat. Discard the hat party and you should be left with a vanilla dough impression of only the Mario face. Place on a silpat lined baking sheet.
Roll out the red dough and do the same, cutting around the hairline and hat, but this time keeping the hat and placing it above the vanilla face on the silpat lined baking sheet. Once this bakes it will form into one complete cookie.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool slightly then move to a wire rack to completely cool.
Using the white icing and a #2 tip, outline M in the center of the red hat, then the left outer edge of Mario’s eyes and his teeth.
For the eye color use the blue icing and a #2 tip to outline the edge of the eye right next to the white outline.
With a #2 tip and black icing fill in his eyebrows, the pupils of the eyes and his mustache.
For his sideburns use a #3 tip and brown icing to fill in the hair.
Add small white dots onto the black pupils to complete the eye, and a heart sprinkle for his mouth.
Let the icing set and serve.
wow! these are amazing Jenn!
