Minnie Mouse fondant toppers
It’s true, I love all things Disney. With so much Disney food as inspiration, I always jump at the chance to make my own versions. Anna and Elsa Frozen cookies, Olaf donuts, Monsters Inc. ice cream, Disney tastes good in every form.
Mickey is my favorite Disney character but Minnie is a close second. With her cute outfits and signature floppy hair bow, she’s got style! I’ve seen Minnie cupcakes with itty bitty bows but this Disney fanatic is here to tell you, nope, Minnie’s bow is HUGE and that’s what sets her apart.
I took inspiration from the iconic Mickey and Minnie heads and made fondant cupcake toppers for a party. Working with fondant doesn’t have to be difficult, these little Minnie Mouse fondant toppers are easy to make and perfect for a Disney fan’s birthday!
Minnie Mouse fondant toppers
Ingredients:
fondant
black gel dye
red gel dye
white icing
Instructions:
Split the fondant in half, for the first half dye the fondant black. I always use gel dye and might I suggest investing in some disposable gloves, as the black is UNFORGIVING on your skin. Dyeing fondant black takes a little work, you don’t want gray tones. If it’s not dark enough, let it dry a bit, then add more black gel dye.
Print out random ‘Mickey head’ images and size it to scale to make a template. Roll the black fondant out, lay the template on top and using a clean X-Acto knife, cut out the image. Set aside to dry.
For the bows use the other half of the fondant and dye it with the red food gel dye. Once the red color is achieved, make two little triangles with rounded edges. Put them together, almost like a butterfly, then add a little round ‘knot’ in the middle.
Lay the bows on the black Mickey heads and suddenly Minnie will start to come to life! To finish, use a #2 tip, pipe white icing dots onto the bows and place on top of frosted cupcakes.
The black fondant totally worked!
