Star Trek Picard Face-Palm cookies
While Star Wars treats are my specialty, I’m certainly not against making a fun Star Trek snack here and there. Especially when they’re memeable.
One of the most famous geek memes of all time is the Captain Picard face-palm from Star Trek TNG. After I found a Picard cookie cutter from Warpzone Prints, a facepalm cookie was inevitable.
Instead of using different colored dough or piping these cookies, I decided to try something different and hand paint them. I know, don’t give me the Picard facepalm – it’s easier than it sounds. Since there’s no intricate details on this cookie, just using food gel dye as ‘paint’ is a quick and easy way to get colorful cookies.
Bake it so!
Star Trek Picard Face-Palm cookies
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
red food gel dye
black food gel dye
Instructions:
Step 1: In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Step 2: In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and sugar until combined.
Step 3: Add the vanilla and the egg.
Step 4: Add in the flour mixture until just combined. When the dough starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s ready.
Step 5: Split the dough into two, and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.
Step 6: When you’re ready to make cookies preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep cookie sheets with silpats or parchment.
Step 7: Roll out the dough to 3/8-inch thick. Dip the cutter in flour before using to prevent sticking.
Step 8: Move the cookies to the prepped cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.
Step 9: In a small glass bowl stir together a few drops of red food gel dye mixed with a drop of water. Using a clean food-safe paintbrush, paint in the bottom portion of Picard’s shirt.
Step 10: In another small glass bowl put a few drops of black food gel dye mixed with a drop of water, and paint the top half of the uniform black.
Step 11: Once the food paint is dry, the cookies are ready to serve.
I don’t know you, but I love you. This post made me so happy today.
I just bought this cookie cutter (plus some others from the same store)! Looking forward to baking some Picard cookies! Great idea about painting with the food coloring.
Won’t the paint kind of soften the cookie’s crunchy surface?
@Kathy No it protects it, actually. Just don’t use a large amount of water. It’s more gel food coloring than anything, which is pretty thick.
I have to ask, where did you get that cookie cutter?!?!
