Star Wars Rebels: A New Universe to Explore

It’s high season for Star Wars fans right now with new movies on the way, Star Wars Celebration right around the corner and this week Star Wars comes back to television with the premiere of Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels!

After the end of Clone Wars it’s time for something fresh and Star Wars is back in a big way with a touch of Disney whimsy, excitement and cool new characters. Star Wars Rebels is an animated series for Disney XD set after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.

It tells the story of the Rebellion’s beginnings from the perspective of a rag-tag team on the ship called the Ghost. Ezra, a young thief who learns how to hone his skills from the crew that consists of Kanan, a jedi survivor, Hera the pilot, crew members Sabine and Zeb, and Chopper, the loveable but grumpy droid.

Last weekend I attended the press event for Star Wars Rebels where along with a screening and press line, there were also craft stations for the kids with temporary tattoos, lightsaber balloons and lots of giveaways. Star Wars crafts are a great way to get kids excited about new characters and stories.

After an introduction by Dave Filoni we screened the first episode titled Spark of the Rebellion, which first premiered at San Diego Comic Con in July. An additional treat was the never-before seen second episode which gave even more insight into the characters and introduces a brand new villian, The Inquisitor.

Star Wars Rebels looks to be a fun and colorful new take on the Star Wars Universe. The lively stories and new characters will definitely get the next generation excited about Star Wars and the new movies to come. Check out the extended trailer for Star Wars Rebels here:
