Washing and storing berries
I’ve been washing berries this way for some time and lately I’ve seen it popping up all over the internet – mostly because it’s berry season! The happiest time of the year.
I buy my berries at farmer’s markets and they are usually very ripe and very fragile so I like to preserve them the best I can. Water equals mold so this quick method will preserve raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and more just a little longer for you to enjoy.
ingredients:
3 cups water
1 cup vinegar
In a bowl combine the water and vinegar. Add the berries and swish around to wash.
Drain, then thoroughly rinse the berries.
Place a paper towel in the bottom of a salad spinner and release as much of the water as possible.
Spread the berries out on a towel and let air dry for 15-20 minutes. Then store in the fridge with a paper towel or loose lid on top.
