Sanrio’s Newest Character Aggretsuko
Anyone who’s worked in an office can relate, late hours, crazy co-workers, even office snacks gone awry – all of these situations are tackled by Sanrio with the introduction of their newest character Aggretsuko.
Aggressive Retsuko is a red panda dealing with work life in the big city and like all of us, stresses can get to her sometimes. Ok, a lot of the times and she pushes those feelings deep down until the emotions erupt in a volcano of rage which culminates in her releasing it out into the open by singing kawaii-death metal karaoke. You know, like we all do.
While the character was introduced to America just this week, Aggretsuko has been around since last year. Short form 1-minute episodes of her daily life have been released and yes, I watched over 30 of them. The situations deal with awful bosses, annoying social climbers and lots of unappreciated late nights at the office.

Quite different from the lazy egg character Gudetama, Aggretsuko was born of a poll asking fans to vote for a new character with a salaryman theme. It wouldn’t be Sanrio without merch and they’ve rolled out a few Aggretsuko products on their US website with the Japanese site going more in depth as far as her co-worker characters and special eps.
I have quickly fallen in love with this character just because I can relate to her intensity. Think of Aggretsuko as Hello Kitty with repressed rage. I’m not saying that’s a good thing but it sure is entertaining.
