Sharknado Cake for Anne and Wil Wheaton
July 29 is Wil Wheaton’s birthday and as with birthdays, come surprise cupcakes and the historically traditional cake made of a tornado of sharks. You know how it goes.
The real birthday surprise was that Anne and Wil make a cameo in the summer tv blockbuster, Sharknado 2: The Second One! The movie is the highly anticipated sequel to the first movie about the world’s deadliest weather system. For their viewing party Anne wanted a Sharknado cake, she didn’t give me any parameters except that it had to be red velvet for a nice, bloody touch when they cut into the cake.
I sketched out some ideas and decided to build a three tiered inverted tornado shape that swirled around some of their favorite things, pictures of their kids, bloody sharks made out of cookies and Star Trek ships. Really, aren’t those everyone’s favorite things?
Anne also wanted cupcakes to celebrate Wil’s birthday with the audience of his show, The Wil Wheaton Project. The show is a fun celebration of all things geek culture and says what we’re all thinking about current sci-fi and fandom news. All in all, it’s a wonderful television geekfest.
The Batman cookie cupcakes were a hit and the Sharknado Cake was everything you could dream of, if you in fact dream of bloody sharks on a cake.
