Shoyu Pork
Shoyu is the Japanese word for soy sauce, and Shoyu Pork is a Hawaiian plate lunch staple.
I created this crock pot version so I could have freedom! There’s nothing like a crock pot to do the work for you all day and have dinner ready right on time. Plus the glorious scent of cooking all day that fills your house will bring you joy forever. Well, for a few hours anyway.
Shoyu Pork
Ingredients:
3-4 pound pork butt
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
1/2 cup water
4 slices fresh ginger
Instructions:
In a small bowl stir brown sugar, soy sauce, mirin, and water. Set aside.
Cut the pork into 3-inch pieces and place in the crock pot.
Pour over the sauce and add the ginger slices.
Cook low for 6-8 hours.
Serve with rice.
Mmmm, mmmmm, I am salivating over here.
Thank you for the crockpot recipe. I can’t remember the last time I had shoyu pork….Yum!!
Oh my. Definitely gonna make this one.
Making this right now with country pork ribs instead.
this is cooking right now and the delicious smells have been torturing me all day! i cheated and just tried a piece and it’s as good as it smells! thanks for another amazing recipe, i love your blog. just wanted to mention this recipe isn’t listed in your index of all recipes and also isn’t categorized into your crock pot category so might be hard for your readers to find.
I am making this for my grandson’s grad nite party! I found your recipe and gave it to him to cook for dinner because it was his turn to cook — it was delicious! The best shoyu pork ever. He loves shoyu pork! However, he did not cook it in a crock pot — he followed directions and simmered it until done. Thank you.
