Star Trek cupcakes
Cupcakes. The final frontier…
I love Star Trek ToS, the original series. The uniform colors and the sleek faux modern look are so very futuristic. Simple and colorful translates easiy into cupcakes so I sketched up some ideas and gave it a go.
Discs of colored fondant also look pretty futuristic, like tiny edible ships waiting to be eaten. I cut out fondant communicator symbols and gave them a little edible luster dust shine. Just the treat for a Star Trek fan…of course you know the red ones will be eaten first. So sad.
Star Trek cupcakes
Ingredients:
fondant
red gel dye
blue gel dye
yellow gel dye
silver luster dust
cupcakes, baked and frosted
Instructions:
Dye regular white fondant into three equal parts, one red, one yellow and one blue.
Roll out the fondant to about 3/16″ thick and use a 2.5″ biscuit cutter to cut out circles. Let the circles dry out completely for a stiffer look.
Print out 1″ tall communicator insignias and use that as a template to cut out pieces of white fondant.
Using a clean paintbrush, brush the edible luster dust onto the fondant.
Let the symbols sit and dry out, then place them on top of the colored fondant circles to serve.
I literally laughed out loud so loudly that I woke my son up way too early for school. Not because you made ST cupcakes, but because I saw them, and said to myself “hmm…wonder if she ate the red ones first or if they *gasp* fell off the counter?” Scroll down a photo and BAM! There’s my answer! So from one “geek” to another, thanks for the laugh and live long and prosper 😉
Jenn, I loved how you emphasized having a clean x-acto knife–for me that is the key to success for these types of designs–they turned out great–awesdome job!
Sooooo creative!
But you wouldn’t be able to get me to eat a red cupcake. ‘Cuz, you know. You’re a fan.
LOVE… ST for the win!
Absolutely beautiful… wish you were MY friend, I have a birthday coming up! 😛
I don’t like Star Trek but I love these cupcakes!
