Star Wars Lightsaber Bud Vases
My friend Kelly Knox comes up with creative craft ideas for starwars.com. For the site, she and I have talked extensively about how similar are creative processes are, and how we use Star Wars as creative inspiration.
So when I was thinking about putting together a Star Wars wedding celebration on May the 4th, the first thing that came to mind was Kelly’s tutorial for a lightsaber flower vase. Her instructions were thorough and easy to follow.
Rather than a large centerpiece, I decided to make them into individual bud vases because I wanted them to serve as favors for the guests. I definitely kept these to Darth Vader’s saber design—wedding or not—I’m always choosing the dark side.
For the base I went with something you might not expect, shot glasses! I found the perfect ones at World Market, they come in a pack of 6 and they’re the ideal size for a small bunch of flowers.

Star Wars Lightsaber Bud Vases
you’ll need:
6 (4″ tall) shot glasses
1 (4″ tall x 5-inch long) piece silver metallic contact paper
5 (1/2″ wide x 1-1/2″ tall) strips black metallic contact paper
1 (3/4″ tall x 5″ long) strip black metallic contact paper
1 (1″ tall x 5″ long) strip black metallic contact paper
adhesive jewels
Wrap the gray piece around the entire shot glass, carefully pushing out the air bubbles as you stick the piece down.
Place the 5 small black strips around the bottom of the glass, 1/2″ apart.
Adhere the 3/4″ black strip around the top of the vase, and the 1″ strip around the middle.
Add two small jewels on the front, and one large one on the back, then fill with flowers.
