Star Wars pumpkin
Made for the Ultimate Star Wars party (here)
Every October I carve a lot of pumpkins. A LOT. It’s a good thing I don’t live next to a pumpkin farm or I’d probably sneak out there in the middle of the night with my xacto and have at it. I can’t help myself.
For this Star Wars party I just knew I had to carve one – and instead of a character I thought I’d just do the words – since they are so visual and it’d be a nice welcome to the guests arriving at the doorstep.
I’ve done pumpkin carving tutorials in the past – and this is no different. In fact it’s way easier since it’s just a font.
Start by printing it out to fit the size of your pumpkin.
Then tape the image to the pumpkin and start ‘stabbing’ at the outside of the image (video, here). Your pumpkin will be nice and juicy – just wipe it away.
If the dots are too faint for you – draw over the outline that you’ve just ‘stabbed’ so it will be easier to follow when you cut it with the knife.
Cut away about 1/8″ of the rind to reveal the first ‘white’ layer of the pumpkin.
Now if you want, you could have cut the thing open and taken out the seeds, but I’m so lazy at this point, this is good enough. I don’t need the thing to light up and what not. I think it looks good enough during the day. But if you want – cut it, seed it, and light it up for all to see.
If you are just starting out carving pumpkins, this is an easy way to go. Think of all the possible things you could carve with text! “Get off my lawn.” “No candy here.” etc….
Wow! What a good excuse to throw a Star Wars party!
