Star Wars Rebels Hera Cupcakes
On Star Wars Rebels Hera has become one of my favorite characters because she’s strong, she’s a leader and she holds things together. Let’s just say there are many similarities between Hera commanding Ghost and me driving the kids to school. It’s just as dangerous and the people in the vehicle are just as noisy, just sayin’.
Recently when shopping for Star Wars Rebels toys I found there were absolutely no female team member toys. Sabine and Hera merch was nowhere to be found which is sad considering they’re a core part of that team. (My son was recently lamenting the same thing as far no Honey Lemon or Go Go toys in the Big Hero 6 collection. Uh, it’s called Big Hero 6 not Big Hero 4, but that’s a fight for another day.) Since Sabine and Hera are always left off of merch I decided to take things into my own hands and create my own fan homage.
My friend Vanessa Marshall is the voice of Hera and since we had plans to hang out, I knew I wanted to make something special just for her and all fans of Hera. These flavorful brown sugar cupcakes are topped with a matcha buttercream that perfectly captures Hera’s special Twi’lek color.
These Hera cupcakes are a tribute to all the strong female leads in fandom!
Star Wars Rebels Hera Cupcakes
Ingredients:
you’ll need:
brown sugar cupcakes
small amount of fondant
black gel dye
pink heart sprinkles
brown icing
black icing
matcha buttercream ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1-1/2 Tablespoons matcha powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Tablespoons milk, as needed
Instructions:
To make the buttercream, in the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter while slowly adding the sugar, a little at a time. Add matcha, salt, vanilla, then the milk as needed.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Place the frosting in piping bag and pipe an upside down teardrop shape onto the baked cupcakes. Use an offset spatula to spread flat.
Color the fondant with a small drop of black food gel dye, kneading until gray in color. Pull off a small piece and place it across the top of the head for a headband. Roll up two small balls and flatten them, placing them on the headband to form Hera’s goggles.
With a #4 tip pipe the brown icing on both sides of the head just below the headband. Pipe black frosting with a #2 tip on the top edges of the goggles.
Take the matcha buttercream again and add the two lekku from the sides of the head, down the side of the cupcake.
Add the finishing details of the eyes with black icing using a #2 tip and a heart sprinkle for the mouth.
It’s so cool that you are friends with the voice of Hera! These are amazing cupcakes! Love them!
