Super Mario Power Star Cookies

Wouldn’t life be grand if it was like Super Mario? If only I could happen upon a Power Star and have everything go my way, even more so if it was a cookie Power Star. Edible invincibility!

This simple but adorable Super Mario Power Star cookie cutter from Francesca4me makes gaming and baking fun. By adding a layer of yellow sanding sugar on the rolled out dough, you get cookies that have instant decoration and sweetness, no extra work required. Now that’s a true super power.

These are a perfect match for Mario cookies!

Super Mario Power Star Cookies

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
yellow sanding sugar
black icing
white icing

Instructions:

In a bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture then slowly add the flour mixture until combined.

Mix on medium high until the dough pulls away from the bowl.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge.

When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep baking sheets with silpats or parchment.

Roll out the dough to 3/8” thick. Spread the yellow sanding sugar all over the rolled out dough and use the Star cookie cutter to cut out the shapes, then move the cookies to the prepped baking sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.

Using a #4 tip, pipe black icing for the eyes. Add a small white pupil with white icing and a #2 tip. Once the icing is dry the cookies are ready to serve.
